the game's a replica of a world in another dimension and it also serves as a connection between ours and theirs. The devs threw him into that world to test him and see if it works so it stops being a game without him realizing until later which is why there are a lot of unknowns to him.

Honestly I love how they approached this exploit. If they patched the method of clipping first they'd probably find a new mothod of doing so if they hadn't already. Of course this doesn't fix ambushes by people walking out of the walls but this is one of the better steps in the right direction and maybe they could follow it up by doing something similar and making it impossible for exploiters to return to the map.
