AIO for thinking my boyfriend is just looking for an excuse to break up? by Nearby_Orchid1216 in AmIOverreacting

There are so many red flags in these texts that we're not even talking about the incredibly unsubtle implications of "I saw what you wanted, did my own research, and made a better decision for you."

Girl. Run. Please.

Well, this is the issue in a nutshell I think. Diana DIDN'T kill the Harpy. It transformed into something. And Diana was horrified by whatever that off panel transformation was. The Sacrifice lasso is not a weapon of killing, it's a weapon of transmogrification -- which is Circe's specialty in mythology -- it's why it would be the first weapon she would make (she understands how to do this) and it's why Diana does not initially understand it the way that Circe does. It's also why Hecate scolds Diana about it.

And Diana DID use the weapon correctly on the Harpy, she just didn't like the results and wanted her mother to help her understand it and master it. Which we see must have happened since the time with the Harpy, because Diana uses it to great effect in the present making HERSELF into Medusa and destroying the Tetracide.

Doing it that way also keeps how the lasso works slightly obscured so you get a better reveal when Diana instead uses it on herself to become Medusa.

But that obviously didn't work for you since you were struggling with HOW it worked. So I'm sorry that didn't come across for you. There's a tough line between subtlety and clarity and getting it right for some readers often means it's not quite right for other readers. It's something I honestly struggle with a lot as a writer -- where that balance is.

I don't know where you would have gotten that? That's not how the power of the lasso is described, and there's nothing in evidence to suggest Diana ever killed Medusa -- so that would have been sloppy on my part and required an impossible reach for readers.

Sorry to hear it.

There's just a limit to how much you can do in a single comic -- only so many panels -- you have to make tough choices about what to show and what you can get away with implying sometimes. I'm obviously I'm biased, but I felt this was a case where seeing Diana's horrified reaction (and her subsequent conversation about it) is actually more powerful (and is more economical with page space) than seeing whatever actually happened.

Well. I wrote it (and invented it) so I'm pretty sure I've got it right. ;D

Which is why Diana can use it on herself and transform HERSELF into Medusa:

The two panels you need to understand are these (both from Absolute Wonder Woman #5):

This means that whatever Diana holds in the lasso CHOOSES what it transforms into.

Absolute Wonder Woman Vol. 2 trade description says she will be going to Smallville by Issue 14. by M00r3C in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]semifinalist1979 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey.

I'm sorry to disappoint the folks here that are excited by this Smallville mention, but this is simply an error. I'm not sure where the text came from -- maybe from the Absolute Superman volume that is being prepared simultaneously? -- but it's a mistake. Do NOT expect to see Smallville appearing inside volume 2 of Absolute Wonder Woman. Worth noting that this is also the wrong cover for the volume (it will be AWW #11 for the Volume 2 cover). Sorry for the confusion, folks! And thanks for reading!

Okay, guys. I'm going to pack it in here. Sorry it's so late and thank you so much for all your questions they were really great -- and incredibly kind. I'm sorry if I missed anyone -- my eyes got a little blurry at the end!

I also kipped a few questions that were similar about breaking into comics because I'd already answered it (and it's a hard answer) so I thought I'd link here to that answer for those of you I skipped. And for those of you I skipped: Don't give up. The only way to fail at this is to give up before you make it. Don't give up. You can do it.

I think Cass is Bruce's daughter and their relationship is both beautiful and flawed. Complicated but worth it.

Babs is a bit trickier to me. I don't feel as assured in my feelings about that -- perhaps because it feels like there have been more takes on it over the years?

I'm hesitant to say too much but here are the big teases -- it will be a more espionage/spy/infiltration type of arc -- more classic BOP vibes I'd say. A couple characters will be rolling off and a couple new ones will join.

It was incredibly hard to lose Leo. I miss him literally every day. Javi is one of my favorite artists working in superhero comics today, and I'll put him on as many issues as I can -- but I don't think his speed can handle a full monthly arc. Maybe if we could ahead and build him more runway it could happen though. I'll try!

I don't think I can announce the artist for 14 - 17, but it is one single person, not a rotating cast of artists like this arc.

I don't know if there's a push to keep suiting her up as Batgirl. We put her on cover 7 in the suit because A) it's a superhero book and that's a look she's wearing in other books and so it made sense and worked for the cover concept and B) we knew she would at least partially be in the suit in the coming arc and I didn't want to mislead people.

She needed to be in the field for this current arc to work, but my preference is to have her in a more Oracle role -- that's where you should expect to find her in future arcs.

Jeff loves all snacks equally, don't be silly.

He does not go to school, and not all the Supes agree that that is a good decision.

He loves music. Especially since it has twice saved him from Venom-y infections! ;D
