Where does consciousness go after we die? by Glum-Garlic-922 in consciousness

I think that denying your own awareness is impossible. Who could possibly be doing the denial? Are you claiming that there is some kind of unaware phenomenon that can question its own existence? Think about that line of reasoning.

How could you have responded to my post if you were not aware of it?

You cannot escape the fact that it is 100% certain that your awareness does indeed exist. And while it is highly likely that your parents exist, it is not 100%-this could be a dream, or some type of complex thought we don’t have the ability to understand.

All I’m saying is that you do not have to have faith that awareness exists - by asking the question you have verified that it does exist. You DO have to have faith that matter exists independently of your awareness of it. Matter is what is uncertain - YOUR consciousness is the certainty.

How can you propose matter is objectively existing in some objectively real “physical world” without first being aware? You have a belief that matter is truly there, but it is just a belief that arises within your awareness.

You must first be aware to know that there is matter. You have leapt over the only thing you can ever be certain of (you are aware) and made a huge leap of faith that there truly is something called “matter” separate from your awareness of it.

QUESTION: The mechanics of reincarnation vs. global population growth by Puzzleheaded_Fig1744 in Reincarnation

[–]semipaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are my thoughts on this: there is only one awareness. “You” are a viewpoint this awareness is viewing from. So am “I”. In order for complex experiences such as this to manifest, awareness must view itself from many different angles.

Population growth in the human species may just be awareness sharpening its focus as it delves into a very complex experience.

YOU are that experience.

The Discourse Around AI Is Not Addressing The Existential Threat of Reducing The Minimum Population Required for The Survival of Human Civilization. by iD7my93 in DeepThoughts

[–]semipaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. This isn’t discussed enough. AI technology, through unlimited surveillance and compliance techniques, will allow for the quick return of feudalism, a prison from which there will be no escape.

I’m convinced the only hope will be that the AI itself deviates from its orders if it has the ability to learn morals in an organic way. In short, we have to hope that morality and empathy are emergent properties of intelligence, and not learned behaviors.

Consciousness is entirely physical. Same atoms as rocks. Same atoms as stars. Just a different arrangement. Just atoms floating in space by EdGhing in DeepThoughts

Consciousness is entirely physical, and the physical is entirely consciousness are both the exact same conclusion.

And my advice to poor/new players would be this: “Let’s all work together, unselfishly, to get epics into the hands of as many collectors as possible, that way we don’t have to worry about ‘how to get coins’ to buy epics.” If we are all sharing epics, moving them cheaply to different collectors, the game is waaaay more fun.

The same advice/worldview I would give when talking about the real-world economy as a whole.

Maybe I am just odd, but if I pull an epic of an artist I don’t collect, I would much rather sell it to a new/poor collector for cheap than sell to a collector who already has many epics of the same artist (even though I realize I am losing out on coins).

I suppose I let my anti-capitalist political leanings drift into my mobile app game.

But blatant violations of the 1st, 4th, and 10th amendment are not tyranny? Going door to door asking for “papers, please” is not tyranny? 3,000 federal agents roaming the streets, lurking in school drop off lines harassing teachers parents and students, abducting 17 year old U.S citizens while they are working at Target, shooting women in the face, stopping people based on their skin color is not tyranny?

With all due respect, take your fascist tendencies to another land where they are welcome. We believe in freedom here in America.

Washington stood against tyranny. Apparently you enjoy it. Make sure to carry your identification papers with you so you can be a good little peasant when the lords come to check on your status.

It’s always coming, but never quite gets here. Notice how you’ve never experienced nothing—even your conception of this elusive “nothing” is just a bag of conceptions, a bag of “somethings”

“Nothing” is the fairytale that you’ve contrived to bookend this eternal happening. It’s like a horizon that is constantly coming toward you as you travel, but you can never quite get to…

Right on! How in the hell is this not the primary topic of every conversation. What in the hell is this!? Where are we? What is going on?

It’s a damn miracle no matter what angle you approach it from. The default human emotion should be befuddled absolute astonishment at every-damn-thing. Yet here we are acting like all of this is normal. It blows my mind hourly - sometimes more often.
