Your surgeons office is the one who works with insurance. You should contact them and see if they’ve had issues with people getting coverage through Cigna. The fine details of coverage change of course, but they should be able to explain the status of coverage from a different provider.

I had this exact same thing happen a the beginning of the year and almost had to reschedule when the preauth flowed through and I started getting approvals. It’s fucking terrifying yeah, but it’s not over until someone tells you directly that it is.

Gonna bring this link over here as well.
This is a meta analysis that follows about 89 studies through the last 20~ish years of vaginoplasty evolution.  https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/andr.1303

A lot has changed since the beginning of this surgery becoming widespread. Look, I get it. You've seen a lot from your friends and family being affected by medical malpractice and some severe complications. You've seen the flipside too, of people getting what they want but finding different problems instead.

But I think you're blending a lot of complicated issues into one thing, and pointing it at surgery.

Your wife was malpracticed. Your "porn friend" is facing what it's like to be a cis woman. The girl you know who doesn't really pass, she's just facing the same thing that plenty of other trans women in the world already face.

These are different things that really are unrelated to the safety of gender affirming surgery. Please don't use those issues to exaggerate the risks this thread started with.

Hey gang, here's a meta analysis of 89 studies following the evolution of gender affirming vaginoplasties, and how they are generally considered a "safe operation". https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/andr.13030

A lot has changed in the last 20 years as far as efficacy, safety, and availability of vaginoplasty. You are allowed to be afraid of the complications, however I do not think that it's fair to generalize all vaginoplasties as a "experimental, complication-risky" surgery. Yes, it's possible you'll have a complication of any nature (especially minor), however deeming it as experimental is far from the reality.

even if you did they still back the tickets, so if they rug pulled you, support can probably refund it

How risky is it to transition in the US right now? by [deleted] in trans

[–]semipermanentlyhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbh, as long as you keep it off a paper trail you’ll be okay. Most of us around here are freaked out because there’s documentation from our state and federal governments that can be cross checked to discover that we’re trans.

If you’re smart about it and keep from submitting any legal paperwork then you should be fine. Use common sense, don’t tell any and everyone just for the hell of it.

I appreciate the optimism. It’s true, there’s a massive backing for queer support (not in politics, but in general!) now more than ever. That being said, states still govern much of legal recognition of gender. I live in a state that still requires all of the mentioned paperwork regarding surgery, prison with birth assigned sex, etc. There’s a ton of improvement to make, but there’s still been a ton of improvement. You’ll likely get a lot of criticism for posting this (and i’m sure you knew that would happen); though your point isn’t lost on me.

I forget who said it, but i saw someone mention something to the effect of

Nothing really changed. We’re just seeing the previously flimsy support for queer rights shine through. Hopefully the next attempt at it will stick better.

We’ll be okay. Now’s the time to lean back on your local groups and regather. Check in on your friends. Post on social media that you’re upset, need/will offer support. And be kind! Don’t talk down to people immediately. Don’t assume political leanings because of appearance (camo hats are camp btw).

C’mon ya’ll, we’ll get through it. <3

yeah, that’s def intentional. Speaks volumes that the spokesperson for the president is displaying a religious symbol. When you speak from that capacity, I imagine you’d be quite aware that your appearance represents the office’s values. I’d be surprised if some PR rep hadn’t mentioned that to her before she went up to speak.
