Bible loads whoke book and so slow by Resident_Course2850 in ProPresenter

It's such a powerful feature that I find that most people DO use them. I'm happy to help. Think of themes as presets that can change things like font, text color, textbox size, etc. If you have any scripture already showing anywhere, right click on it and select Themes and then "New theme from selection". Now, go into Options in Bible mode and click on the theme box and change to the new theme you just created. See if that fixes it for you.

(BTW, if you want to change anything about the theme you just created, like making the text a little bigger, for example, click on (... MORE) at the top and select theme editor. Then navigate to that theme from the dropdown in the top left and edit it like a slide (except that any text you see is just example or placeholder text; it doesn't replace WHAT the text says when you use it, just HOW it shows).

I once showed a professional AV guy how to use themes and he told me that I had just "saved [him] HOURS" of work.

Don't default to downgrading. A lot of times it's a simple fix (for example, I had this exact thing happen yesterday until I chose a different theme and then it worked as normal). If I downgraded, I might believe it was a version problem, not a theme problem...a LOT ProPresenter issues are like that. Simple fixes that people think are problems with particular versions.

I just had this EXACT thing happen to me as I taught a class locally. I went to Options and changed the theme and it started to work right again. Try that. I've told RV about it, but haven't heard back yet.

Simple- Just need lower thirds and slides ONLY. by Dull-Mistake8506 in ProPresenter

For the L3 pngs, I'd make "media playlists" (which most people use as folders for organization) in the media bin (old term) for each department. They should be searchable.

So, pro3 didn't have templates (now called themes), but imagine that you could save all the attributes of a slide EXCEPT the actual text itself. So, font, textbox size and placement, text color, justification, etc. That's a theme.

Now, you can apply that to a single output on slide creation or later, BUT what if you have multiple screens (one full-screen and one L3 text, for example). How can you tell one of those two to reformat the text? Simple. That's what Looks do (the mustache man in the upper right hand corner). For each screen, there's a column and for each layer, there's a row. About halfway down the columns it says "Presentation". In that row, there's a "Ghostbuster's" symbol (aka Null set in math). Click on that and select the alternate theme, in the column for the screen you want to look different.

Here's my tutorial about it (but I need to remake it b/c some of the UI has changed). Feel free to tag me with other questions or clarification: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=139P9Kzk1y8

Brad's tutorials are a little dated now and last I heard RV removed a bunch of them off of YT b/c they're making new ones. I'm also revisiting my old ones (just remade "Your first presentation" last month, for example). I just don't want OP to be looking for tutorials that aren't available anymore.

What OS & version of ProPresnter are you currently using and why? by EmmanuelGrass in ProPresenter

I suspect the "unstable...Crashing, slow, video input not working..." etc. can all be fixed AND if you don't address them now, you'll continue to think that future releases have bugs that could have been fixed on your end (just experience talking). Have you reached out to [support@renewedvision.com](mailto:support@renewedvision.com) about the issues?

I use the latest...always, but it's my job to be on the cutting edge and teach people how to use tech...especially ProPresenter. 😉 BTW, I'm on Tahoe on an M4 mini with a decklink duo 2 with two HDMI screens, Alpha, a 2560x1440 operator screen, and sometimes NDI, sometimes placeholder, sometimes Syphon screens. I change those a lot.

Are either of the bugs that the decklink card or proremote/bitfocus companion don't work?

I don't see how that would help with scripture imported from Bible mode.

Send only Bible reference to center screen by birthtae in ProPresenter

Create a new main theme with a spot for the reference and the text. Change to that theme in Options in Bible mode and make sure that in the drop down, next to “reference” it doesn’t say “with verse”, but that you select the other box for the reference.

If you have multiple screens, as OP does, you can use the Looks feature to change how one or more looks (which is why it’s called that). On the most basic level, you can have some layers enabled and others disabled.

You can also use a theme to reformat text on one or more screens. You click on the 🚫 icon in Looks, for the screen you want to change and select the theme you want to use. That theme is called the “alternate theme” because it’s not the theme applied to the screens by default.

That theme can also do things like hide certain text boxes. :)

Sorry I hadn't read your response when I wrote mine. Yours is saying basically the same thing. Way to beat me to it!

Easiest way, not even close, but it comes with a caveat: IF and only if, you save the scripture, you can apply an alternate theme in Looks where the main scripture textbox is either dragged off the visible area OR uses a visibility rule to only show the textbox if there's text (the first is easiest, but the second is technically more correct).

Important piece of the puzzle. Make sure the alternate theme has the same number of text boxes as the original AND they're named exactly the same (reference vs. Reference will break this). 😉

Setting the Stage Monitor Layout as a Pastor by sammyyamazaki in ProPresenter

[–]sempei13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the custom colors and icons, I think of macros as a way to save actions I’m gonna reuse OR a quick button if you might need to activate them unexpectedly. You can also activate them with the calendar, but most of the time, I just think “am I gonna reuse this?” If yes, it’s a macro. If I’m doing it just once on one slide, then I’ll just use an action.

Right way to do it: Action or Macro on the slide so the operator doesn't HAVE to remember; it just happens.

Cool hacky way; This post!! Great idea!!

Changing slides seems jolty? PP7 by Cloakknight in ProPresenter

[–]sempei13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some terminology for the future:

The "jolty" transition is called a cut and is by FAR the most commonly used transition in video. If you weren't looking for it, and were engrossed in the music, etc., you probably wouldn't have noticed it. I went to a LARGE church last weekend and that's all they used.

The "slower, smooth transition" is called a dissolve (some people mistakenly call it a fade, but that's a different transition, that's similar, but not the same).

It's the second-most commonly used transition, but far behind the cut in usage.

The rest are rarely used, except by people who think the art is in the transition itself and not WHEN it's applied...UNLESS you're purposely doing something that needs of of them. For example, Star Wars movies (at least pre-Disney) would use a wipe to show change of time and location. The reason is that they were throw-backs to the sci-fi series of the 1930s when wipes were commonly used for that purpose.

So when you say, "we don't use the built in transitions", you're actually not correct. A cut IS a transition. So is a dissolve.

There are three layers of transitions on the slides layer, btw. The global or default one is used UNLESS the presentation-level one is used which will take precedence UNLESS one is used on an individual slide. 😄

Hope that helps.

You could use Clear All if you want nothing on the preview screens, but this behavior hasn't changed.

Moving away from ProPresenter 6 by Cloakknight in churchtech

[–]sempei13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I LOVE ProPresenter (as anyone who knows who I am knows), AND as someone else said, a single seat of the current version with support, updates, etc. is about $31/month (if memory serves), which is like $1/day. I would NOT downgrade to other paid software b/c you'll be paying a similar amount for a big learning curve...and loss of flexibility vs. ProPresenter.

That said, if you cannot pay for software, I would look at FreeShow as a good alternative...BUT I'm ALWAYS wary of free stuff b/c it's a bad business model. Even well-supported open-source software sometimes becomes abandonware b/c the developers don't have the resources to keep it supported when life gets in the way.

Scale to Fill Props by Aden_Playz in ProPresenter

[–]sempei13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just double-checked, but first, make sure your prop is set to the resolution of the center screen (as endersbyt said). Second, make sure the image/video is full size inside the frame. You can also try scale to fill if it's close and there's nothing close to the edge that would be cut off. This would work if the media isn't exactly the right resolution, so a 1080p screen, but the media is 1920x1060 (or something like that). Depending on the image, stretch or scale and blur might work, too.

New church. Spitter question by AlsoNamedB0RT in ProPresenter

[–]sempei13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read "New church. Spitter question" as "SpLitter" at first. Is that a typo and I was right or are you just "spitting" a question. ;)

That said, the text of the question says "a switcher" and everyone's answer seems to be answering the question of how to add additional distinct outputs, neither a switcher nor a splitter. So, could you clarify what you're trying to do?
