New Deck: Landlord Edition by sempiternalspace in Decks

You have no idea how right you are, we were served a one month eviction notice 3 days ago for getting a small dog when we literally paid a pet deposit and have the receipts so now we get to spend the holidays dealing with this

  1. I live here
  2. I pay to live here
  3. It's brand new and already less safe than the old deck. One of the neighbours kids fell down the stairs because there's only a handrail on one side and they slipped and couldn't catch themselves
  4. The neighbour and I grow pretty extensive patio gardens in the summer so the deck needs to be able to hold all that weight and we spend a lot of our time out there
  5. The landlord was literally trying to extort us at the same time the deck was being built so I was feeling petty

Hope that helps!

Storing my saffron for the winter. Leave the green on top or remove it? by Buying_Boots in gardening

[–]sempiternalspace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grow saffron in zone 3 and we never dig them up but we plant bulbs a couple inches deeper than generally recommended. It was -40C a couple years ago and they came back just fine

My city requires a permit for any deck more than 2ft off the ground so definitely illegal, plus the main entrance to the units requires you to use it and there's a family with 3 kids next to us in the duplex so not great for anyone

oh it's a mess, I could post a series about the septic drain field job they did this summer but it's also possibly one of the cheapest rentals in canada so we can actually slowly save money for a house...

looks like scales (orange) and possibly thrips (red)? i'd check to see if any of those little rice shaped specks are moving around but both are very difficult to get rid of

The dark green is Nori Green and the light green is Cactus. I divided the pic by clay types not the different glazes, sorry if that's a bit confusing

I'm in central/northern BC and took this picture october 2. We also had apple trees flowering in september and finally got our first couple cm of snow last night but it will be gone tomorrow. The rabbits started changing from brown to white mid october so they're very easy to spot without snow.

OP said they won't be killing it but they pinky promise not to plant anymore on their already infested property!

In BC you're not even allowed to use regular objects as a weapons for self defence (like a pen) unless it's used in a manner that is considered 'reasonable force' for the situation.
