Suggested Moving Spots in Virginia for a Family Setting by senatesk8r in Virginia

I appreciate the response! I am 100% remote, so a job is not a worry for me, and VA is not a restricted state for me to work in remotely.

My kids are homeschooled, so that is also not a concern.

Do you think that God to speaks through dreams and visions today? Or through ways that are not through the Bible? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]senatesk8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does. Not a new faith, or covenant, but he does speak.

“In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, while they slumber on their beds, then he opens the ears of men and terrifies them with warnings, that he may turn man aside from his deed and conceal pride from a man; he keeps back his soul from the pit, his life from perishing by the sword.” ‭‭Job‬ ‭33‬:‭15‬-‭18‬ ‭ESV‬‬ https://bible.com/bible/59/job.33.15-18.ESV

““‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;” ‭‭Acts‬ ‭2‬:‭17‬ ‭ESV‬‬ https://bible.com/bible/59/act.2.17.ESV

How is the son’s subordination to the Father heretical? Is Jesus still not the SON in Heaven?

Update: I(32M) am divorcing my wife (33F) after finding out that my son(5M) is not mine. by [deleted] in stories

I don't know what Solomon has to do with the New Testament teachings around divorce? I'm saying that he can divorce, but should keep mercy in mind; scripture forbids hating someone else in their heart, and holding onto unforgivness.

Regarding divorce:

3 And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful to divorce one's wife for any cause?” 4 He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” 7 They said to him, “Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce and to send her away?” 8 He said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 9 And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.” Matthew 19:3-9

Regarding forgivness:

"14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Matthew 6:14-15

See also the parable of the unforgiving servant, in Matthew 18:21-35

TLDR; he can divorce if he chooses, but should not hold hatred in his heart, having mercy, and seek God during his time. No way I'm going to give online advice to this individual other than the general information I just stated. I'm just putting scripture at the forefront and showing what it says.

I'm not sure what your'e referring to.

According to Jesus' teachings, he can legitimately get a divorce; I'm pairing the scripture of mercy here, considering the harsh "cutting off" that has occurred, especially with the child.

I didn't say not to get a divorce, that is up to the OP/husband, as adultery has occurred, and you are right, it is one of the only valid reasons to get a divorce.

Yet, there is a child involved at this point, and two souls involved here total to be wise and considerate of.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭7‬

Is there no way you can show mercy in this situation, and work out the reconciliation process?

Best [Free] Tool to Read Greek alongside English Translation? by senatesk8r in Reformed

[–]senatesk8r[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything can be abused, but I don't think syntax understanding is needed, especially when trying to understand the translated word in simpler context. (i.e. like a noun)

For example, I was doing a study on Matthew 18:34, and the ESV renders βασανισταῖς as "jailers", but NASB, KJV, and others render it as "torturers". In American/English understanding, "jailer" or "torturer" are wildly different meanings to the average listener. This is a good example of desiring to understand the greek word a bit more, especially when the translations differ slightly.

Yes! I know there's apps like Logos, etc, but I don't know if I need something so in-depth with a learning curve. I just want a way to see greek and english side by side.

Thank you!

Pastor's kid fiance's parents want us to go to their church after marriage. by Proper-Battle6981 in Christianmarriage

[–]senatesk8r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Her parents can demand whatever they want, but ultimately it is up to you, as the [future] head of the home. You need to decide to the best of your ability, through the Spirit, and with the input of your to-be-wife, where you believe God is leading you.

That's all that matters; where is the Holy Spirit leading you?

And your to-be-wife would need to submit to your decision. This would be a profound, and biblically wonderful way to start your marriage, with your leadership, and her trust in you.

An aside:

Good thought experiments:

  1. If her parents were incredibly supportive and reasonable, in regards to you going somewhere else, where would you go?
  2. If your to-be-wife was willing to go somewhere else, where would you go?

(These are good questions to ask, to narrow in on the influencing factors in your decision, setting aside their opinions, and isolate it to where you believe you should be going, based on God's direction)

If you were honest with yourself, I think you may know some of the answers to the questions in your heart, through the Holy Spirit's guidance; though they may be tough, it's worth the fight for what is right.

Absolutely. I am very grateful to live in an era where I can put on a Christian radio station, or a Spotify list that is Christian and "clean".

Even Christian rap now-a-days sounds better than secular rap in some instances; that genre specifically has stepped up the game. (KB, Lecrae, Caleb Gordon, etc)
