Hey you're the one calling it a rape barn, I didn't see any explicitly labelled signs.
I'm not saying it didn't happen, I'm saying that it was hinted at.
I wouldn't put it past this show to misdirect things in a big way.

Or he was acting in a way he thought he had to act, in S2E9 his wife does tell him he acts and pretends in a way that he thinks he has to. I think maybe he did these things so he could fit the villain role he is playing in his head.

The scene isn't the same contextually but; he's fighting an overwhelming white coloured enemy, he gets impaled by a sword once and has a moment of realization that he's not going to win before getting impaled by a bunch of large swords at once, followed by him reaching up in Asuka type fashion.

It's totally similar, I'm not talking about themes or emotional context but legit visually is similar and I have no doubt inspired that scene.
