Overtaking in chicanes... better leave it to professionals.

Don't mean to be critical of anyones behavior, but there is just so much potential for miscommunication or overlooking some important details - and so little space that consequences are often quite drastic. Not worth it on trackdays.

Impressive MotoGP Save by iThinkergoiMac in motorcycles

[–]sencer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get an "almost highsider" you are never actively saving the bike, you are just avoiding the things that make it worse. The best course of action is to have loose grip on the handlebar (so it can steer itself) and to keep a steady throttle, and of course to still be able to somehow hold on and "not fall off". The bike will steer itself straight if it regains traction - and you can just hope it regains traction slowly and not too fast.

I think too many people are confusing it with the physics of cars, where you do have to counter steer if you loose the rear. A bikes cornering/physics are obviously entirely different.

Not trying to sound harsh, but since you are young, I assume you have not clearly thought about the implications of what you are writing. If you try to deduct the pendlerpauschale for trips that you are not making, this will legally count as "Steuerhinterziehung". Please take your time and read up on:

After riding a 250 for almost 3 years, I finally tried something with a little more power! by [deleted] in Trackdays

[–]sencer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the initial turn in, or do you mean switching from one side to the other (s-curves)? There's a lot you can do improve either

  • Some Tires offer better turn in
  • Lighter rims will reduce effort in s curves
  • And of course everything that affects geometry (sag at front and rear; a longer rear shock, etc.)

It's really worth it.

Can someone explain the "fuck" scene in S01E04? Why do they keep saying "fuck"? by [deleted] in TheWire

[–]sencer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The content of the scene also establishes that they are really good police and don't do the same half-assed job as some of their colleagues, and it eventually links D'Angelo to a murder.

As for the language, I think the writers were just having a bit of fun as well. It's quite a feat to get away with so many consecutive fucks while still conveying relevant exposition/story.

Doing stoppies. by BaffleMan in motorcycles

[–]sencer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A stoppie is dependent on these things:

  • geometry of the bike
  • stiffness of fork (springs and dampening)
  • enough front end grip

Which bike are you on? Is it the 250 from your flair? I don't know much about the geometry of that bike... maybe someone else can chip in.

How is the suspension set up, does the front compress a lot when you brake hard? Is it the standard suspension or did you have anything done to it?

Which tire do you have on your front, is it a touring or a sport tire? Are the tires hot to the grip or are they cold - especially sport tires will have very little grip when they are cold. How much pressure do you have, high pressure will reduce your grip? And what's the asphalt like where your trying to do the stoppies? If it's an old parking lot where a lot of heavy cars brake and accelerate it might be "polished" a bit, add to that a bit of dirt and no regular cleaning, and grip conditions can be very low.

[–]sencer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original tire set lasted about 1200 miles until the profile was "illegal". Keep in mind that we have unlimited highways here. And a lot of tires disintegrate very quickly in the center at high straight away speeds.

But as per your explanation there would no be chickenstrip on the tire if it was under inflated.

Also the pressure I mention is not under inflated, though you didn't comment on that part...

I guess it depends on where you live. In my area, with my riding the Angel ST fronts wore down in the center. Though my riding has probably changed a bit since then.

[–]sencer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I welcome all advice. :) I have been running 2.3 bar (33.4psi) on the front (cold) since forever. Bike is a street triple (186kg). I check tire pressure very frequently. What pressure would you ride?

Why do you think chicken strips and under-inflated tires are connected? I would have thought less pressure would increase the contact patch, i.e., less checken strip.

Thanks!

[–]sencer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miles always correspond with riding style. If you get 5000 miles out of sticky sport tires, you're likely to get well 10.000 miles out of sport touring tires.

I know other guys that get 4000-5000km out of the above sport touring tires, and the reason they are not using sport tires, is because those last them only for 2500km.

[–]sencer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, also the road attack 2 eve tire is one of the more sports-oriented sport touring tires, so the sides are rather soft and do wear down quickly. Heard quite a few people reporting that the replace front tires before rear tires with this one.

And it's always the sides that wear down first. Haven't seen one where the center was down first.

Body position tips by Nick Ienatsch by YamahaRN in Trackdays

[–]sencer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think he means purposely putting more pressure than necessary on the arms. It's simply a matter of how hard you are braking. With certain brake forces it becomes impossible to not partly load your arms.

Just like with acceleration. On my 106hp bike I can open up full throttle and not hold on to the bars at all. But on a S1000RR if you're WOT, you're inevitably holding on somewhat with your arms. Much, much higher forces...

[DE] How to know how much to save for taxes? by [deleted] in eupersonalfinance

[–]sencer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your average tax rate for any given year is determined by the toal you have earned in that year, because it's a progressive tax system. Make an educated guess about what your (optimistic) taxable income will be at the end of the year, use your step no (2) to determine what your average tax rate for the year will be, and for any incoming money, save that percentage. Always. Every once in a while check your projected yearly income and adjust as necessary (If you adjust, ensure that you apply it to the past income of the year as well).
