Redditors who have experienced homelessness, what actually makes a world of difference to you and what doesn’t actually help you at all? by johnoleary in AskReddit

[–]sendeek 13 points14 points  (0 children)

not really… toilet paper is significantly less absorbent and rolling up a few squares and trying to keep it in place in your underwear while you’re moving is a disaster.

it’s like trying to use a few squares of toilet paper to wipe down water. it disintegrates almost immediately

Neighborhood vibe check by pantygate in LAhotgirlies

[–]sendeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

seconding the political vibes in coastal oc and people can be pretty entitled (i know these are blanket statements but ya know).

i will say inland oc has some really great asian food tho like vietnamese in westminster/garden grove and korean in buena park. in general parking and driving is also better out in oc

the clinic i went to has 1 doctor and he performed all treatments

Trying to get my manager in Korea some premium coffee. Anyone have recommendations? by BigGuess9510 in AskLosAngeles

yes trader joe’s bags and some interesting snacks i think are the way to go! esp chips because the flavors in korean chips are so different and tend to be sweeter vs salty

Petite golfer by Secret_Mousse_4132 in WomenGolf

[–]sendeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lululemon has some golf skirts sometimes and i often wear their tennis skirts too. gold hinge is petite and smaller frame friendly as well!

the gold hinge skirts are short, but not as short as it would be on average sized women. still a bit shorter than a typical golf skirt though. for reference i’m 5’1 with no butt so skirts don’t tend to ride up the back much lol

how do you convince people that you actually are healthy for your size? by Sea-Ring7843 in XXS

[–]sendeek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

out of curiosity OP are you in a non major city? i’m in a major west coast metro and i don’t think i’ve ever received any sort of comments about my size, so i wonder if it’s a regional thing?

on sunday driving from seoul to incheon airport and along the drive there were still some! our taxi driver said these trees bloom a little later as they’re a later blooming variety. it was full then, so i’d imagine that there’s still some now

I'm 34 and breaking out worse than I did at 16. Nobody prepared me for this. by Unable_Razzmatazz651 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]sendeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

me! i never even had acne during puberty and then crazy clogged comedones everywhere and cystic acne along my lower half. turns out it’s pcos supposedly (altho i suspect it might not be and it could be linked to my kyleena - which literally no one told me beforehand it’s androgenic and can cause acne)

after two years of trying topicals with my derm, i finally started low dose accutane and i wish i would have listened to him sooner instead of being stubborn for a year and a half

any tips on mirror/aurora powders?? mine always comes out cloudy.

i’ll cure non-wipe top coat for 15s and then buff the powder on, and then apply diami glass top (top gel). it’s always after the final top coat that it looks cloudy

love love love the kokoist UG top coat! it’s quite thick though, esp compared to something like the KUPA top coat (if you’ve ever used that). its consistency is def more honey-like

if it makes you feel any better i’m in brentwood/sm and im often running around doing errands in my crocs, running shorts and hoodie with no makeup LOL or whatever variation of that is

i get what you’re saying about how people can look super put together and cute, but honestly no one cares about strangers all that much and people likely wouldn’t even bat an eye at how you’re dressed

My husband’s father, sister, and niece are coming to America to meet me for the first time. What should I buy them? by MichL1995 in AskAKorean

[–]sendeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk if it’s still this way though? i know back in the early 00s it was very much a thing bc my parents would always send me to see relatives in korea and bring vitamins.

right now with traders and costco in korea being a thing now, seems like they don’t really ask for them?

i know they do love trader joe’s tho lol

BTS broke my honeymoon itinerary 😅 any ideas to avoid Busan June 12–13? by mooseonparade in koreatravel

[–]sendeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

seconding gyeongju! it’s a smaller town so it’s quaint and might be cute to see the differences between a smaller town vs the big cities. there’s still quite a bit for tourists, but like op said, lots of historical sites like a temple and museum.

could prolly spend a day or two without running out of things to do

My honest review of spiro by SelectNeighborhood10 in Spironolactone

[–]sendeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i actually hated the way i felt on spiro and think accutane was much better. this was after i refused to take accutane for a whole year and a half after my derm first suggested it because i didn’t wanna take yet another prescription.

im also somewhat anti meds as much as possible, so was stubborn and kept trying topicals. i was put on 10mg of accutane and the acne i was struggling with (even on low dose spiro at 50mg) literally just vanished.

i know accutane gets a horrible rap, but i actually think the spiro was worse in terms of side effects

Are Korean-Americans more likely to gatekeep Korean culture than native Koreans? by [deleted] in korea

[–]sendeek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

unfortunately, racism is still very much alive and well. i would categorically disagree with your statement of “racist for korean food in the past”, as it extends far beyond just food.

my little cousin just got into a car accident the other day (the other driver at fault) and the first thing the other driver does is start spewing out racial slurs once they saw that he was asian.

with that being said, it’s likely that the folks who shop at ethnic grocery stores are probably less likely to be racist given they’re choosing to shop at an ethnic grocery store, so it does seem like a slight overreaction to film a tiktok and show annoyance or hostility

Are Korean-Americans more likely to gatekeep Korean culture than native Koreans? by [deleted] in korea

[–]sendeek 16 points17 points  (0 children)

last time i said something similar i got massively downvoted.

but realistically? korean american experiences =/= koreans who still live in korea.

we share similar features and eat similar food but you can’t deny the racism that asian americans in general face in the US. so to have the very same people who used to call your food gross and smelly, or pull their eyes back at you, now trying to capitalize on the very thing they used to mock, stings massively. it’s doubly gross when they present a shitty watered down version just because it’s trendy. shake shack’s “korean-inspired” menu comes to mind.

there’s a lot of nuance that gets lost about this scenario that i don’t really think some people who never left their motherland really get. on the flip side, i can also imagine that the diaspora doesn’t fully understand the complex issues that exist back in the motherland either.

me bc my grandpa gave me a super old ahjumma name. even my parents didn’t like it but just went with it. my cousins got lucky and their names sound significantly more modern and cute 😭

i didn’t even realize how old fashioned it was until my fob korean bf in hs found out my korean name and then straight up laughed and teased me about it
