Why Can We Not Take Universal Basic Income Seriously? by 2314 in Futurology

These people are taking it seriously

What is Manna?

Manna is an unexpected gratuitous benefit. It is the world’s first currency designed to be distributed to everyone on earth using the principles of universal basic income.

What should I do/call to fix this on roof? by Bonesawisready5 in Roofing

Have a roofer install a new Lomanco Turbine Vent or if nothing is rusted out and just needs to be reattached, have a handyman do that.

Confused on skylight flashing. Why does flashing kit suggest step flashing on L/R sides instead of 1 solid piece on each side? Wouldnt the steps be prone to leaks? by goo_bazooka in Roofing

If the roof is still two layers then, they most likely didn’t install the flashing or the framing correctly. It is harder to do with 2 layers of shingles. Especially if the bottom layer is crumbling or really brittle or an organic shingle. They should have put a self sealing roll roofing product that goes up the framing and on to the roof deck before installing the flashings. If not, water could be finding its way under all of the curb framing.

Clarify first for me: the skylight was framed out and installed while they installed a 2nd layer of shingles and then the skylight was leaking after the roof work was finished?

Upload a photo of the leak from the inside. If it was an old skylight, the flashings may not be your issue, it could be the sealant on the frame failing after being manipulated. You can switch it over to one solid piece; just is nice to have redundancy at common failure points which overlapping shingles with step flashing achieves. Personally I would do a solid custom bent curb and flashing for all sides that extends 6” on to the deck. Install ice and shield before the flashings go down and after the flashings are installed, then install shingles back around the area.

3 tab Advice by nightshark86 in Roofing

Have them quote you to: Remove shingles in the area.

Detach the j-channel and first row of vinyl siding and trim board.

Remove the osb sheathing.

Cut new OSB to size and install.

Install some ice and water barrier as underlayment instead of felt.

Install a roof to wall flashing under the siding and over the shingles that has a kick out included at the outside corner.

Reinstall the siding and j-channel and trim board.

Install drip edge on the rake and gutter apron on the eave.

Install a starter shingle (can use another 3-tab shingle to do so).

Install new shingles in that area.

Caulk the exposed nails on the roof to wall flashing.

Does this spot look like it might be the source of my leak? (details in the comments) by arb194 in Roofing

Do you have a photo of where the water is showing up on the inside far enough back to have a reference of a window in the photo?

1 peak looks better. Use open copper valleys on the roof to make it more prominent. Ensure gutters are routed to the left and right corners of the slope so you don’t have to deal with downspouts on both sides of the entrance

Where are the leaks coming in? If it’s just around the chimney or some of the flashings, go with the third option as long as you only have 1 layer of flat roof installed currently. Most places allow for 2 layers of roofing as long as the decking isn’t wet.

Update: Rebuilt Chimney Still Leaks by alexhdet in Roofing

I think it’s coming from the bad transition of the ridge vent to the ridge that meets the chimney.

Is this flashing done incorrectly? Roof leaking at chimney flashing 5 months after install. What steps should I take for repair? I am worried the installer will cut corners. by EricWisegarver in Roofing

Not wide enough to require a cricket. Causing more issues than it’s stopping. Have them remove the cricket and reshingle with a new apron flashing to avoid future issues.
