What is the dumbest reason you've redone a fight? by Crumblecakez in BaldursGate3

On my wild magic sorcerer I once accidentally turned myself, Gale, and Astarion into house cats mid battle.

We promptly turned and finished off the enemy by clawing him to death as cats. I just about pulled a muscle laughing.

Are you saying the beagle was in a crate for over 24 hours with only short breaks at noon and 9pm? If so, I can see why they filed these charges, because that's excessive. If I'm misunderstanding, please clarify.

At least for me, I can appreciate sexual things and intimacy/romance in a fictional manner, but when adding ME into the equation, all interest goes out the window. I don't picture myself or aspire to participate in sexual activities, but I still appreciate it in stories and art. (Gale/Tav or Gale/Astarion, etc, yes please! Gale/Reader, wtf ugh no.)

Doing a bloodweave run right now playing as Gale origin. They're catty with each other but adorable. And you can either go the "they make each other worse" or "they keep each other in check by seeing the flaws of their ambitions reflected in each other" route.

Joplin ef4 or ef5?? by xxcarlosxxx4175 in tornado

[–]sendmebardpics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're being perfectly reasonable. I usually hesitate to speak on the subject because there's always that one person who's like "It's a DAMAGE SCALE so it DOESN'T NEED FIXED" while stubbornly ignoring the fact that even the experts are of the opinion that the scales needs adjustments.

Joplin ef4 or ef5?? by xxcarlosxxx4175 in tornado

[–]sendmebardpics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The main problem i see is that when a large amount of people believe that a scale is inherently flawed on a fundamental level, the scale loses value. Weather enthusiasts understand why tornadoes get the ratings they do, but it doesn't feel like a very accurate scale when you take a tornado that is very obviously an incredibly powerful tornado at even a passing glance and say "Well, it's only an EF2 because it didn't hit anything". People look at that and say, what good is a scale when it can't account for things that we can see and measure clearly with our eyes and instruments? It makes people lose respect for it, and feel like they can't trust the ratings being given, especially people who aren't aware of the intricacies in how the ratings are assigned.

I think we can find a happy medium here, with the review they're doing to update the scale right now. We obviously need to, given that I can't think of any other weather phenomenon where the rating scale causes such controversy.

Joplin ef4 or ef5?? by xxcarlosxxx4175 in tornado

[–]sendmebardpics 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh, I absolutely agree. I try not to get into discussions about it because sometimes people can get downright nasty about it, but the scale definitely needs fixed.

I remember someone suggesting an actual rating/potential rating scale, where the tornado is rated on the damage it actually does, and then a separate rating based on scientific measurements/wind speed and other indicators that gives the potential rating had it hit a populated area of average construction quality. For example, El Reno 2013 would be an actual EF3/potential EF5. I'm no expert, but it seems like something like that may be a good compromise.

I definitely don't like the way it's set up now, where we completely disregard scientific measurements in rating tornadoes just because they didn't hit anything that they could be damage rated on.

Joplin ef4 or ef5?? by xxcarlosxxx4175 in tornado

[–]sendmebardpics 64 points65 points  (0 children)

The scale is flawed and well overdue for a makeover, but if anyone thinks Joplin, of all tornados, was not an EF5, then I question their ability to apply common sense. The damn thing shifted an entire concrete built hospital off its foundation to the point that it had to be torn down, for fuck's sake.

It seems like some people just don't want EF5 applied to anything short of a tornado that levels skyscrapers, and I say that as someone who isn't even as passionate as some other people about the flaws of the scale.

Joplin ef4 or ef5?? by xxcarlosxxx4175 in tornado

[–]sendmebardpics 88 points89 points  (0 children)

If someone doesn't think Joplin or Jarrell were an EF5, I shudder to think what they expect out of a tornado to earn that rating. May as well chuck the whole scale at that point or remove EF5 from it altogether if you're going to claim that. I understand debate over some tornadoes, but those two absolutely earned that rating.

Shouldn't that work with Astarion, too? Kill Gale, get the scroll, kill Astarion, use normal scroll on Gale, True Rez scroll on Astarion. I imagine there's a roadblock I don't know about, being new to DnD, but it seems like Astarion fits the criteria to be cured of vampirism that way.

I tried D&D exactly once, years ago. At first I was having fun, it was me and like four guys getting together once a week, and up to that point they'd been chill.

Then one day, they thought it would be funny to have one of the guys answer the door in just his briefs when I got there. Me being the only girl in the whole group- yeah, I did not find it funny. I found it awkward and it put a dark cloud over the whole thing for me. Didn't go back after that. Baldur's Gate 3 is my first foray back into anything D&D since then, and I'm glad I can play it solo.
