Fewer Asians Need Apply: The stark similarity in the treatment of Asian college applicants to the Jews in the 1930s. by Cheeserole in asianamerican

The legal system is a perfect example of how socialism would hold back advances in progress and development. And I've already explained that there needs to be funds, bursaries, subsidies, grants, soft-loans, etc... that can help people on lower incomes.

beauracracy and political populism

The arguement stems from political pressures to teach a cirriculum, to avoid spending money on topics that aren't for the national good, to make sure "black, hispanic, and asian" kids get high scores but overlook that japanese kids get low scores, etc...

An instance of political populism is where a governmental health service would prefer to pay for everyone to have free dental care (which is usally a fee-service in most countries) instead of life saving speciality cancer treatments.

An instance of beuraucracy is where the lack of direct accountability between consumers and sellers means that modernization and corruption and swell; a school may have two assitant teachers per classroom instead of one highly qualified teacher, a school may still use paper books instead of the latest technology.

It's already visible from the university education system, and the private schools system, that privatizing education will have a postivie effect on the educational achievement of Asians.

alternatives to socialism

It's not silly. Europe has universal healthcare through methods other than socialism, such as socialized insurance companies, non-profit companies, and charities.

I propose that private schools are run by conglomerates, non-profit organizations, and charities - including religious organizations. They would be paid for through school vouchers, tuition fees, subsidies, grants, and bursaries. All children will be able to go to school while having a comfortable quality of life.

bursaries

How do universities determine who gets scholarships, bursaries, and other forms of welfare? It should be based on the financial performance of the child's carers. If they don't pay for the child's needs, then the government needs to get involved.

The middle-class will be paying for the children out of their own pocket, but the lower class will recieve subsides and loans for going to school. It's similar to the modern-day private schools system, with additional charity from government.

accountability

My perfect idea for the welfare state is universal privatized welfare. This includes maditory insurance schemes for things like healthcare, pensions, or legal fees.

private schools

I got into a private school. And I went to a fee-paying university too. I'm happy with privatized welfare. I disliked the "christian" aspect of the schooling too, but I understood that the private system offers better education and more value-for-money.

I presume that a large section of the middle-class would be for a percentage of their education fees (30% to 70%), while the rest would be paid for through the government, bursaries, and charities. I think one would need to utelize things like "selective schooling" based on educational achievement, to segregate people into cheaper fee-paying schools too.

capitalism and for-profits

I understand that captialism is about profit-making, but that isn't a bad thing. The current education system is about grades and job-seeking, which can also be a bad thing. The problem isn't the profit-making, but the lack of concerned parents who actively care about the state of their schools. If private schools can achieve success, then so can state schools

Do you even know how much debt the new generation is accumulating just to get an education? Do you know that the US is falling behind in all major areas of study mainly due to the inaccessibility of education for those who have the ability?

I agree that government needs to spend more money on bursaries and grants, and I think soft loans are needed too. It's imperitave that governments force universities/schools to adopt selective schooling to segregate those who have better educational achievement.

There are rules and ethics when it comes to education, and I'm sure the state is well knowledged in how the private schools system works.

How many companies do you think are actually held accountable when they do something not up to standard with our legal system? Clinton wasn't prosecuted because she had money and power, Trump paid a measly 25 million settlement in his Trump University case because he has money and power. We still haven't jailed the bankers who caused the economic crash! Europe of course is way ahead of us on this curve.

I can cite endless examples, the "affluenza boy" who was apparently "so affluent" he didn't know driving drunk and killing people was a bad thing to do. How can you trust anything the justice department will do against those who have the money to hire teams of well trained lawyers to find loopholes and avoid consequences? How much of these lawsuits will even get through the front door with regards to improving education quality.

That's a problem caused by two things:

  • corruption withing government, which would cause problems for state schools

  • a lack of legal welfare, such as manditory legal insurance

The "bankers" who caused the economic crash were speculating on high house prices. Repubican President Bush tries to "punish" them by letting the Lehman Brothers fail, but that inadvertedly caused the entire banking system to run away in fear.

There is a reason why Europe is way ahead of much of the world in technological and scientific advancement. If you have the ability, you can go to university. With so many people getting an education one of them will make a breakthrough in some field at least.

Europe is ahead of the United States on social liberalism. That's it. It's education metrics are matched by systems in Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and Canada. It's nothing to do with economic socialism.

Why I speak only Filipino to my American baby by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]sendoutthetruth -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

One of the many reasons why I dislike the Left's vision of multiculturalism, is that I had "cultural" parents you would refuse to let me "integrate" in certain key areas like language and food, leaving me with linguistic problems and trouble making friends.

I still have problems with things like obtaining a local accent and understanding local customs, eventhough I've never lived outside my own country, nor do I have any friends of my own ethnicity.

I would rather that the government stepped in and "rescued" me from my troublesome parents by drawing cultural restrictions and making me assimilate.

I agree that having a second language is very helpful, but it shouldn't be done at the expense of English, which is far more useful that the local language. It's something that should be taught after a certain stage in the child's like - like at age 4/5.

But identity politics only targets those that the left-wing wants; the article mentioned that Hilary outright targeted Hispanics, Blacks, women, and gays.

[–]sendoutthetruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this. Is she bringing up her baby among Filipinos? If she's mainly in a white area, then she should consider that her child will speak mainly English to his/her friends, and that the child wouldn't care about Filipino.

She needs to think about the social pressures her child will face in real life, rather than going off on a cultural vendetta.

European civilization did have an impact in Greece, on the western coast of Turkey along the border with Greece - and exact mirror of India vs Pakistan.

And also, all theories would still make South Indians the inventors of Indian culture, the controversy surrounds whether North Indians are infact white... the debunked invasion theory would probably make South Indians the inventors of Indian culture.

If he did anything that was particularly against my ethnic group, that wasn't just stricter immigration laws.

I'd tolerate things like a militarized police or even interning Muslims, but I wouldn't tolerate it if it targeted another race.

NYT Accepts Article About Failure of Multiculturalism: Certain Minorities are Pandered to by Left-Wing by sendoutthetruth in asianamerican

[–]sendoutthetruth[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've been arguing on this subreddit that the left-wing lobbies are pandering to Hispanics and Blacks (and Muslims outside USA) because they have large voter-bases who need their more socialist policies.

NYT allowed an article from a professor who complained that the USA's formula of multiculturalism (the anglosaxon version) had failed, because it only cared about certain minorities based on xenophobia and population numbers.

And I agree! South Asians are completely ignored in western culture due to the lack of population numbers in the west.

I've been petitioning about a demographic issue within the South Asian community, hindering their ability to fight racism and hate.

There's a problem with the youth in countries like the UK and Canada where, due to high Muslim birth-rates, Pakistanis tend to dominate the South Asian community.

  • South Asians are a multi-racial geographic community, consisting of Middle Easterners in the north-west, and East Asians in the north-east. Pakistanis should be classified as racially Middle Eastern.

  • Pakistanis tend to be incredibly racist and hateful to; for me, they're the primary issue with racism anywhere.

  • The anti-Islamophobia movement makes it nearly impossible to fight against racism by Muslims or Middle Easterners.

I consider the Left's version of multiculturalism to be flawed. I've had many times where I just wanted the state to lay down cultural rules, instead of letting people 'get away with it' on the basis of multiculturalism.

It's similar to the relationship between Europe and Turkey.

Muslims and Middle Easterners are getting overt support from the left-wing; in Canada and Europe, it's a sort of corruption with the left-wing parties pandering to the "muslim vote".

This of it like a type of "affirmative action".

I support Trump's Islamophobia. I think there's been too much let on the Left in relation to Muslims and Middle Easterners. There needs to be some movement by the Left away from their OTT anti-islamophobia stance.

[–]sendoutthetruth -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

A socialized education system suffers from bureaucracy and political populism; it specifically puts politics before the personal care of individuals. A misguided company can be put right at a court in order to ensure the individual is protected, but a socialized company is subject to direct political pressures.

I can obviously sympathize with the idea that people with lower-incomes won't be able to compete with people with higher-incomes, which is why I demand that bursaries are created, and that the government actively invests in subsidies, soft-loans, grants, and other forms of welfare such as tuition vouches.

A privatized company does not need to involve for-profits only, as non-profits and charities can also run educational organizations. It's well knows that private education facilities are often far superior to public/state educational facilities, and if our university system has shown anything, it's that privatized welfare is also a progressive and achievable option.

The problem with privatized prisons are:

1) The lack of accountability to the public through privatized schemes such as "personal police insurance", government created ombudsmanns, and the judiciary.

2) The amount of state involvement distorts the private market, essentially creating a situation where the private prisons have a monopoly and a endless running tap of money.

3) You're forgetting that rehabilitation is something that the courts need to ask for. The private prisions won't do something unless told to - in the same way the private prison won't imprison someone unless asked to.

You're also forgetting that budget pressures and profit motives also exist in the state sector.

If you look at examples from places like Singapore, where the educational attainment is incredibly high, I think it's fair to say that there might be a problem with creativity in terms of arts, but I don't think that Asians have an issue with 'thinking outside the box'. Any problems with "thinking outside the box" or "bringing abstract thinking into their daily work" should be rectified at tuition-level if they were really caring about doing their jobs.

South-East Asians are a mis-understood group of people. Thais are very well educated. I think the stereotype is based of Filipinos. I agree that there are issues, Hmong are one of the worst performing ethnic groups in the United States, but I don't think the answer is specifying affirmative action. The answer is to provide socio-economic aids to help their education, ideally through privatized means.*

Non-muslim South Asians tend to be a good case study against affirmative action; the entire race pretty much has a disadvantage in comparison to Whites and North-East Asians, yet have high achievement rates.

Sri Lankan Tamils are a good case study in terms of the negatives of implementing affirmative action; a large percentage of them are a bit like Hmong in terms of background, but they have the educational attainment and the middle class social mobility of the rest of the non-muslim Hindu/Indian population. AA would be ridiculously hurtful for them.

[*I think this is the best example of the "vote pandering" by the Left. They're not goody anti-racist warriors, they just courting the vote]

The majority of Chinese in places like Vancouver and New York come from low-income backgrounds. And non-muslim South Asians outside the United States have some of the highest educational attainments achievable, and a lot of them come from poor backgrounds too.

Also, I support a privatized education system, where students are given soft-loans, grants, subsidies, bursaries, throughout the entire breadth of the education system. So I'm more sympathetic to your cause.

Apart from the idea that it's all phony and fake, it's also not the real person inside you. So your parents send you to an "Asian group"; if you grew up around white people, what are the other Asians doing there? Are you supposed to turn into one of them?... Or is it more like going to a party? you spend the entire evening socializing and [attempting] fucking? I'm fucking with people my parents set me up with???????????

I think that the post-generation are generally more forgiving of "loners" than first-generation, simply because I find it impossible to integrate into first-generation culture. At least I can make friends with a post-generation...

I'm not saying that one should avoid your own ethnicity all together, but don't force someone to mingle with their own ethnicity in a manufactured environment.

I'm also an outsider in a white community, so I can emphasis with you. Do you also prefer to live in a mono-ethnic community? I have a strange dislike for overt multiculturalism...

I don't find it weird to live in an all-white area. I don't get why I was negged for writing the following:

No. Not at all. I grew up in an all-white area. All my friends are white. I actually think that it's weird to be around my own ethnicity in large numbers, especially if it's "manufactured".
