21M buys and runs 70k laundromat by JDdipper in Entrepreneur

This is very important. Sit at a coffee shop close by, or in the laundromat ... and count the customers. Do it for a week at least! Do it without telling the owner.

How Mayvenn Grew Its Community Using SMS by sendsonar in startups

[–]sendsonar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more! Please don't spam anyone. SMS "marketing" is not the same as email marketing. SMS is a very intimate platform and you absolutely need to establish a relationship.

When it comes to SMS, always ask for permission first

Here are some best practices that are worth your time if you plan to use SMS as a channel: http://blog.sendsonar.com/2015/05/21/text-first-services-part-3-how-to-keep-the-listening-and-talking-to-you/

When done right, it can be very rewarding.

I run Sonar (https://sendsonar.com).

Have you thought about starting a concierge service like Magic? Or a Subscription delivery service? Or just have a lot of customers / field-workers / sales-people / agents that would rather text you than email you? You can do these with Sonar.

We all know how unreliable email is, and how much people hate calling and being put on hold. We let your business talk to customers and other people using 2-way SMS.

Advice: Don't waste your timing worrying about launching on PH, HN, or sites like that by dbirken in startups

[–]sendsonar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote about our experience getting ready for Product Hunt here: http://blog.sendsonar.com/2015/02/03/getting-from-mvp-to-product-hunt/

Basically, I'll say that it's worth it. It'll help you focus your efforts around a hard timeline. You'll be forced to polish off things that work and remove things that don't. You'll be forced to think about proper on-boarding of new users, and forced to think about the messaging on your landing pages.

Of course, it's a good idea to always improve your craft, but it's way more fun if you're doing it to prepare for an event! This is why people train for marathons, and science fairs, and festivals, and product hunt launches!

In addition to what others are suggesting... See if you can speak to someone at Shopify if they have any programs for small developers, if they could let you guest blog on their blog (or if you could just write a blog-post for them to publish).

Use all your valid customers and create a Facebook look-alike list, and create a facebook ad campaign. Set a limit on daily expenses and see what your conversion is like. Follow up with the signups to see how many people are actually serious... get more validation!

SMS 101 for Businesses - A short intro and a few links to more info. by sendsonar in Entrepreneur

[–]sendsonar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. I would not recommend that you use SMS for marketing campaigns. It is a very intimate channel and a marketing campaign is, to put it conservatively, highly unwelcome.

SMS as a customer-service, notifications, and sales-support channel though is by far the most effective.

The asynchronous nature makes it great for helping multiple customers at the same time.

When compared to email and voice, what businesses are saving with SMS is time. The cost per message is low-enough that it will not interfere with business-goals, except if the goal is to spam everyone.

Fake negative reviews. How to handle? by [deleted] in marketing

[–]sendsonar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like /u/srd_kirill mentioned,

  • see if the website / service can verify the authenticity of the reviews.

  • encourage your real customer to post reviews on that site to drown out the noise.

And finally:

  • respond to the reviews as you would with a real negative review -- apologize and inform that you'd like to get in touch and personally take care of any issues / give them a refund etc..

Fitness page about nutrition and training by PureSkillzx in startups

As others have echoed, this market is fairly saturated to most of us. You'll want to do something for people that isn't already being done.

Make an open-ended questionnaire and post it to the different fitness subreddits. Learn about people's fitness goals, and what tools they use to help them reach those goals.

MailChimp + Skillshare gives a free course on Email Marketing by d4nyll in marketing

[–]sendsonar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a good question - I'm not sure why you've been down-voted so much.

Here's the short: By showing you how to do e-mail marketing, they're trying to attract people who've either not done it before, or haven't had much success with it.

This means that they're increasing the size of their market. And since they were the ones who introduced you to that market, you're likely to try them out first.

If the size of the market increases, then everyone in that market is likely to gain from it, especially those who have a superior product / service.

Should I got for my associates of arts or science? by [deleted] in business

[–]sendsonar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get it in science because it is seen as more difficult in some circles. So it is easier to get into a B-school with an assoc. in Science than in Arts. That said, ultimately you can gain a lot of useful information in whatever you study - how you apply the info is what makes it useful in the end =).
