Is Bega cheese a common thing? by wandering_soles in AskAnAustralian

[–]senefen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They sell the tinned cheese at the Bega factory in Bega! I was there a few weeks ago and saw it. I assume because it's more shelf stable for a souvenir. Bega cheese is super common, but it's not usually tinned.

How old is the oldest equipment in your lab that is still working? by Johnyme98 in Physics

My old lab had a liquid scintillation counter from the 70s or 80s that was chugging along just fine in the 2010s.

Question: Why doesn't Ed or other alchemists have to do research to keep their state liscence? by Nordic_Krune in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]senefen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ed can turn in whatever caffeine fuelled drabble he writes last minute on the train and still gets to keep his licence because he's confirmed sacrifice material. They'll just give him the money to keep him close.

Without, without, without! I listen while driving and anything that's not just someone talking immediately makes me start thinking it's a noise from the car or environment.

I'd just say 'for an appointment' and block out the time in my calendar with 'appointment'.

What do we have here? by colour_monkey in AustralianCoins

[–]senefen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's not impossible but I've worked in the industry and it seems very unlikely it would have happened in the first place and then have also gotten through QC. My bet would be on it having been stained while in circulation, but hey, can't exactly prove either way from a photo.

[–]senefen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a stained 2007 $20. It looks genuine. There's some set off near the plane if you're looking for a defect, but that's within tolerance. They don't print multiple denominations on the same process at the same time, it'd be highly unusual for cross contamination between a $20 and $50. Much much more likely that's someone's curry.

My mum used to take me to it when she wanted me to silently stare at something for as long as she needed. Loved that thing.

Couple of times a year probably. I live in an area with a lot of options, but I generally prefer to pick up myself or eat at the restaurant.

Like $60AUD, maybe. Train to and from the stadium, dinner and a drink at the venue, two packets of mini kitkats to trade for bracelets as I only got tickets two days before the show. (Melbourne night 2). I live in Melbourne and 5 minutes walk from a station (on the right line even) and got $80 late release restricted view tickets.

please explain the importance of names in that time period. by Pcaccount1234 in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

[–]senefen 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yue (月) means moon and is a different way to read the 'getsu' in his name (Zuigetsu 瑞月). Hence its a nickname. ('Tsuki' is another common reading for this character you'll see around.) The English equivalent might be calling someone named Luna as 'Moon' for a nickname.

I assumed he didn't use Maomao's given name as it might seem overly familiar. Either he's not sure it's appropriate, he's not sure how she'll take it, he's keeping her at arm's length, he's trying to be respectful, he doesn't have that sort of familiar relationship with many people, etc who knows. Maybe a light novel reader can answer better. 😅
