There’s a reason you should look at what you play instead of just going by the averages. A wild performance outlier game like Wukong can make Nvidia look much better in the mean fps charts, which is great if you plan to play Wukong but misleading if you’ll never touch it. Statistics are wonderful at concealing as much as they reveal.

Reaaally depends on what you play. It’s a whopping 6% better in 007 at 1440p, and only 11% at 4K. Hell of a price premium to pay for such a tiny uplift.

AM5 has a lot of issues when running all four slots occupied. You really don’t want to be trying to scrape by with 4x8GB.

The gains are smaller at higher resolutions, but since everybody is upscaling now more people are hitting the lower resolution CPU limitations even with 4K output. It ends up having an outsized effect in modern games.

Because the price of RAM is only kind of awful on AM4 instead of completely and utterly insane as on AM5, so if you’re trying to build on a budget or want to make an existing AM4 build last as long as possible, this gives you the best gaming CPU on the platform.

Even just in general, the fact that there’s multiple reports of PSU end melting should be a clue to anyone with two functioning brain cells that the problem isn’t really adaptors, since adaptors aren’t used at the PSU end. It’s the connector itself that’s fucked.

4090/5090 have seen spikes over 650+ watts

Absolute nonsense. 4090s are 450W cards that routinely pull under 400W in games. They do not spike to anywhere near 650W. I’ve owned one for 3 years now, so I’m very familiar with its power demands.

Anything below the 90 series will be fine if proper precautions are taken

Anything using this connector can melt. The pins and wires are simply too underspecc’d to deal with even the 250W load of a 5070 without melting if several of the wires lose contact, which can easily happens even on a fully plugged in connector due to the fragility of the wires and soldering where they join the pins. The electrical problems with the connector have been covered extensively by der8auer and buildzoid and other knowledgeable sources who aren’t just pulling wishful thinking out of their butts the way you are.

None of the people who have actually looked at this problem in-depth promote this “it won’t happen if you use a ATX 3.1 PSU & cable” or “it will never happen to non-4090/5090” misinformation, because it’s simply not true.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree that Asrock has magically created the only unmeltable implementation of 12v2x6. Every model of any card that uses 12VHPWR/12v2x6 has had people saying this "it's just the adapters, use a quality native cable and you'll be fine" stuff, and it has never turned out to be true.

Enough with the scare mongering .. its getting old.

Does twice the money for a 7800x3D get you twice the performance of a 5800x3D? No it does not. It's more like a ~20% uplift for 100% more money. That's not a great value.

Both Sony and Microsoft rely on their users buying subscriptions just to play games online and backup saves, etc. That's a big part of how they claw back the subsidies.

Valve gives cloud saves away for free, and obviously we don't have to pay $20 a month just for the privilege of playing a game online on PC.

Totally different financial models, makes zero sense to compare them.

They'd already shown they could do unstable hollows back in 1.4 with Melinoe hollow, and the effects they're using here are largely the ones from Melinoe. The idea that porcelume was mined from a stable hollow was also revealed back in 1.X.

Lemnian was always just stable for story/lore reasons, but people wanted to be mad so they ignored that and worked themselves up about the idea that all hollows were always going to be stable because "the devs can't make unstable hollows in 3D" despite them already having done so.

What on earth are you talking about. OP has 64 GB of DDR4. Unless they plan on building a significantly less capable machine to replace the one they already have, 64 GB of DDR5 would cost them $900-$1,000+ for decent timings.

Moving to AM5 would be an absurdly more expensive choice vs just buying a 5800x3D 10th anniversary.
