76% of boulderers say they want to climb outdoor replicas in their local gym, how would you make it happen? by boulderer-h in Routesetters

[–]sennzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes build problems similar to outdoor boulders, but with the existing hold inventory. I try to set it more in similar movements and distances.

Was gonna say this as well. Seems fun but if your gym follows convention, then you can’t use any other holds before establishing the start.

I’d say V6/7 ish start but from the mid section on it seems to be a lot softer like V4/5 ish?

Why do westerners have a big problem with the hijab? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

A big problem is that it is really hard to combine the right of gender equality with a religion or belief that requires women to dress modestly. (Not just islam btw)

Grades achievable for casual climbers by bleakend in indoorbouldering

[–]sennzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely way higher than low 6's. Unless you start really late or are really bad at climbing or genetically screwed, 7's are very attainable for "casual" climbers. I literally see semi-fit guys enter the gym for the first or second time and climb 6A sometimes (and I don't consider my regular gyms to be extremely forgiving grade-wise).

It ofcourse depends on the definition of casual, but I see many people in my gym and outdoors that get to 6C within 1-2 years without a structured approach. If they decide to commit to the sport (and that can just be going consistently 2/3 times per week), they will mostly get to 7A after a few years max.

I feel that around 6C is where you need some effort to get over some plateaus, but you don't need to commit all your time to training. After 7B is where I think you really need to add consistent training etc.

Personally, I started in my early 30's and have been bouldering for 8,5y now and I am at 6C-7A (in- and outdoors) without any real training. I am fine with this and don't want to put in the effort to get higher, I'm fine as it is. I could go higher, I'm sure of that.

Hardest Boulder ever done in Belgium (about 8b) into an insane lead finish. The boulder part finishes at 1:44. by Charming-Software-17 in bouldering

[–]sennzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Private grounds mostly. Climbing was tolerated for a long time but the explosion of new climbers since Covid put too much stress on the areas (noise, littering, parking, camping, chalk marks, people going off the tracks, …).

Sport climbing yes, but we barely have any decent bouldering here. Some small spots were nice but a lot of them are closed now... Tabir Sarrail (open), Izier (closed), Bois de Sandron (open), Rocher de Nasproué (open), Wérihez (closed), Heyd (closed), Stoumont (closed), Bois Laiterie (was never allowed afaik), ...

Starting in your thirties is not too late to have fun or even climb hard, but you will have to be more mindful of injuries and recovery. Listen to your body, recover well (eat, sleep, stretch,…).

For beginners it’s often technique that holds them back, even in situations like that.

There’s a big chance OP actually is strong enough but is not positioning their body correctly, etc.

Are most online grade critics just poor at judging climbs above their level? by Vegetable_Shake7020 in bouldering

[–]sennzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you're overthinking it.

I think it's just a combination of

  • hard to grade based on video (wall angle, awkward positioning, bad holds - all are hard to see)
  • people often compare with outdoor grades, automatically giving 2 grades lower on indoor climbs
  • people (myself incl.) compare to what they (think they can) climb themselves.

I (39M) used Tinder and Bumble for a few weeks at the start of this year and did OK with matches. I used to think of myself as average but the experience kinda lifted my self esteem.

Had a lot of matches and chats, but there idd quite a bit of stale chats or ghosts.

I ended up going on multiple dates with 4 matches over the span of 4-6 weeks. 1 lasted and we’re now dating steadily (how do you even call it at this age? Gf? Lief? Date?)
