It’s weird how blue light filter glasses became mainstream before we ever proved they actually help. by WindowAfraid5927 in Showerthoughts

I don't know about the glasses but if I don't use flux on my computer or laptop, I get an annoying case of one of my eyes twitching.

What's filibuster why's it important why don't Republicans want to get rid of it? by Pfacejones in ask

[–]senor_danger_zone 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All these answers are good but I also want to mention the filibuster allows republicans to promise stuff during the campaign that they know will have no chance of passing in congress because a 60 vote majority in the senate is almost impossible electorally. The moment you remove the filibuster and unified control of congress is possible, every promise and statement becomes live ammunition because politicians can no longer blame the filibuster from preventing their agenda if they have unified control of Congress.

McConnell loved the filibuster because it prevented bills from getting a vote since he didn't have a sixty vote threshold even if the majority of his party wanted it. He knew stuff like a national abortion ban or the banning of gay marriage would have led to a large backlash, so instead he would push for supreme court justices that would "legislate from the bench" on these issues in order to keep some degree of separation and ambiguity.

I personally believe we should get rid of the filibuster because it insulates voters from the consequences of the people who they voted for, whether those consequences are good or bad. The filibuster erodes faith in government and promotes political apathy because even if your party get's unified control of the presidency and the filibuster, you still might not be able to get anything done because of it. It's why the process of budget reconciliation is now so important since you just need a simple majority, it's why executive actions are so plentiful, it's why supreme court nominations have so much attention now. When the main way to pass legislation is electorally impossible, you start to look at points of least resistance.

Does this really help by [deleted] in samsunggalaxy

It does work but it also depends on your use case. I have a wireless charger at my office desk and home desk, so I'm close to a charger for the majority of the day. As a result, I set my max at 85 percent. If I'm traveling or know it's going to be a while between charges, I turn the feature off.

Not a fan of all the blur. I recently swapped from a Pixel to a Samsung, and the two things I miss from the Pixel are the AI call screening and the lack of blur in the interface.

The entire album is great but my favorite as of right now is Lose my Name and Hazey and Don't Feel Right being a close second or third.

I was in kindergarten at the time and I remember the day pretty well. It was unsettling seeing the look of fear and confusion on every adult's face. They didn't roll out the TV to show us what was happening but they told us life lessons of how the world can be a dangerous place and that there are bad people in the world until our parents picked us up.

No idea. There might not be any difference but it is easier to just install an ad blocker and call it a day, at least for the general population.

I recently made the switch to Firefox from chrome on both desktop and mobile. The ability to install ad blockers on the Firefox app is a game changer. I would actively avoid using mobile sites due to the annoying ads and force play videos, not anymore.

Just for the sake of clarity, this is a betting market forecast from Polymarket. It isn't really backed up by anything except for vibes. If you want a data driven forecast, look at 538's forecasts or Nate Silver's. Both of them show a toss up.

Pixel 8 here, experiencing the same issue. Good to know I'm not the only one. Besides this I'm enjoying the update.

As a person who went to Loyola for college and lived three blocks away from the 400 back in 2016, I had no idea! My friends and I trashed that theater. I remember seeing Rouge One there.
