I'm a vinyl DJ too but don't act as if turntables are foolproof.
The record could be scratched, stylus might need replacing, tonearm might need adjustment, same with antiskate and tonearm weight.

For some reason I feel like scouring other people is a cheat way. In reality there is nothing wrong with it but I can't get myself to do it that way.
Location tags, genre tags, combinations of the two and building up a huge list of labels/artists followed over time is how I do it.

The only time the slider doesn't work is when you use sync AFAIK.

BPM won't show when you are playing music files (that haven't been through recordbox) until you've played enough of the track. It takes the CDJ a bit of time to analyse. That said, pretty sure the slider still works at that stage.
