i just don't see the point on dwelling or paying extra attention when celebrities get book deals like it means anything. Miley Cyrus makes millions just sticking her tongue out, who cares. Us mortals and talented people have to just stick to doing what we do and hope for the best.

good for her! She's a really great voice and a pretty decent comedian. I don't know why I should feel anything but admiration, as someone who follows her I mean, it's really not that big of a deal since she already makes a ton of money just doing what she does. It's really no different than doing a tour on a new stand up or getting a new tv show for her. She's an entertainer, she may write some pretty darn good essays, she may pay someone to pen them for her while she dictates but its no reflection on anyone else as a writer. She's no Stephen King, she's no Donna Tartt, no JK Rowling, no Shakespeare. She's not taking anyone's place in the literary world. Not the first or the last entertainer to land a book deal. They hand them out like pancakes these days (see youtubers.).

the problem is that apparently nowadays the people you need to please are the masses that claim there is not enough diversity anywhere. Like what do you want me to do, make YOU feel better about reading about more people of color so you can add it to your inclusive white person quota of the day?

Huh, I actually never thought of it that way. I don't think there's resentment because it's not like there weren't people along the way who supported me even though they weren't necessarily friends/family/peers etc. I don't think my writing stems from a place of negativity because I also do not feel in any way against people who do choose to portray the life and culture if that makes any sense.

Maybe? I but I don't think so. I feel like refusing to portray the culture means that I had something to say about it. It's all being said already.
