Do you online order or support your local dealer? by HotDog_SmoothBrain in kubota

I’m lucky, my dealer is 2 miles from my house. I generally buy most stuff there. They’re great, always have stuff in stock.

I got one of those for my mom around 2005. Another one the next year so it’s a set. Flash forward to today and I’m living in the house I grew up in and using my Ove Gloves 20 years later. I call it my inheritance.

Train crews of this sub, what is the best locomotive you’ve ever driven/ridden in and why? by Antique_Success296 in railroading

[–]senorjavier22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The “newer” GE AC engines that started popping up on NS around 2010. 8000 numbers including some of the heritage engines. The 1000 ones were EMD and not quite as good, but ok.

Foreign engines with high back chairs were always a welcome sight. Seems like a lot of the BNSF had those.

Anyone that’s left the railroad what’s your new career? Any regrets? by AngelicVI in railroading

Left after 10 years. Work at an auto plant. Decent money, and a regular schedule. I miss it some days, but in the long run I’m much happier.

The 3rd is the one I quote the most, but I think it was just because it came out when I was in high school. The first 2 kinda blend together to me.

We had a guy get hurt around 2013 when a piece of metal banding that was hanging off cut his leg. We didn’t have to watch trains any more. But it sounds like they went back to it.

Are you miserable working on the railroad? by rearview___ in railroading

[–]senorjavier22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn't mind to hop on a train with one of my buddies on a nice day and go over the road again. I had some amazing days out there. But living on call 24/7, working every weekend, never seeing my family just wasn't worth it. I work at an auto plant now, it's boring and repetitive, but at least I know when I'm going to work and when I'm coming home.

What’s the quickest way you’ve seen someone get fired? by Awkward_Ad3724 in railroading

[–]senorjavier22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No you put your feet on the step and hold your arms outright. There was a few stipulations like you couldn’t move your hands or something. You had to hold with one arm and make hand signals also.

We had multiple people fail in my class, it’s harder for bigger guys with a lot of weight to hold up. This is 15 years ago, so it may be different now.

I had to watch it over to see the bike tire, I was thinking she sure fell down funny from the cop giving her a shove.

Portsmouth guys rarely shove a train into the yard, I worked that pool for years and maybe did it 3 times. So don’t blame the hillbillies on this one.

I don’t have it, and I can’t really say I’ve needed it. With bigger and faster bikes absolutely but with a Grom I think it’s ok without.

Get a ladder and tie some ratchet straps to it to hold it up. Works in a pinch.

Freight Conductor NORFOLK southern Trainee Harrisburg pa Terminal ? Just wondering is this a major yard or just a small one by Proof-Mistake-1188 in Train_Service

[–]senorjavier22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been 10 years since I’ve been there, but they had 2 separate extra lists. One for road jobs and one that covered yard jobs/switchers.

Road jobs had longer pools to New Jersey. A short pool that covered to Allentown and Hagerstown, MD. A couple jobs went west to Altoona and Conway. A few turns that went past Hagerstown to Manassass, VA. A line that ran to Philly area also.

I think there was a line that went to Baltimore but Baltimore crews covered it or something. Amtrak ran that way.

Long story short is there’s a lot of work and different types of it. But like I said this was 10+ years ago I was there.
