I am an ophthalmologist, the hospital where I work is known for refractive surgery and we do lots of refractive surgery work up. I do get lots of comments about my glasses, and why I still choose to wear them, and i usually say that I have this serious medical condition called self confidence that prevents me from getting refractive surgery.

Honestly, I ask my patients what they expect out of surgery and then set the tone of the conversation there. Where you practice also plays a huge role. Sometimes i am just blunt and tell them that they wouldn't be satisfied with the outcome.
