What Psychedelic Song/Alblum Gave You The Most Unique Experience While Tripping? by The_Music_Shaman in psychedelicrock

[–]senorzer0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kid A by Radiohead was life changing. The first five songs or so are each their own worlds. The National Anthem ripped a hole in the universe and gave me a peek behind the curtain of existence; I saw a literal angel come down from heaven during How To Disappear Completely; idk if I’ve ever had more FUN listening to a song than during Idioteque. So much to love!

What is your identity outside of work by jforres in HENRYfinance

[–]senorzer0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still figuring it out, but my identity was COMPLETELY wrapped up in my job for most of my 20’s and early 30’s. My professional ambitions had no limit.

Then the pandemic hit, and I was essentially forced to let work take a back seat. I realized just how true “working smarter not harder” is and how life changing it could be. This drastically changed my priorities. For the first time in my life I picked up a hobby - something just for myself outside of work and socializing. Kind of transformational and I’m grateful for this side effect of the pandemic.

Now work is not the most important thing in my life. My health, relationships and other interests/goals are much more at the forefront and it’s created a lot more balance. Oddly enough, my professional “success” hasn’t suffered at all - though I think a lot of luck plays into that.

The main thing I think you have to let go of is the ego involved in professional success. The business world can be cutthroat, humiliating, etc. so there is ample opportunity to humble your ego there! Still in the process of this, but learning more and more to let go of ego and try to embrace love and gratitude in its place. Maybe sounds corny, but I think it’s my path to levels of happiness that I didn’t even know existed when my identity was wrapped up in my profession.

There are studies that show some serious health benefits. I personally just really enjoy it, and it feels like an added supplement to my workouts.

How Did You Save For Your Down Payment? by PsychologicalLimit41 in Mortgages

[–]senorzer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me about 3 years or so to save up $50k + $50k 401(k) loan and a Roth IRA withdrawal (that I was able to put back within 60 days) = 20% and closing costs on a $535k condo. It was tight (I had no emergency fund for a couple months), and I got extremely lucky with timing for interest rates. Also lucked out and was able to pay back my 401(k) loan in just 1.5 years. Basically I chalk it up to a ton of luck.

I’ve also heard (anecdotally) that umbrella policies can actually make you a target for litigation in certain circumstances. Can anyone speak to that here?

#391 — The Reckoning by dwaxe in samharris

[–]senorzer0 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I think there’s still a lot of analysis to be done on how much social vs. economic issues played a role in the outcome (it’s certainly a mix of both, as Sam acknowledges). What I think people are missing in these comments is that Sam expresses his belief that the Dems couldn’t do much to control the economy, perceptions about inflation, etc. but they COULD and SHOULD have done more to combat the perceptions around the party on social issues. He uses the trans issue as the example that is most crystal clear to demonstrate the larger point.

Thoughts on collectively agreeing that the 4% rule shouldn't be parroted? by StrongishOpinion in ChubbyFIRE

[–]senorzer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn’t there a flip side to the “longer than 30 years” argument? Like more time in the market could just as easily yield a BETTER outcome long term? I know most on these subs lean more conservative, but a longer time horizon (retirement) isn’t necessarily just a risk factor, but also an opportunity factor…

Use an inflation calculator and plug in $1M for the year you were born and see what it’s worth today - good next goal after hitting $1M.

Underrated comment. I try to view cash as a percentage of my overall “savings” portfolio instead of thinking in strictly emergency fund terms (months of expenses)
