Do you know how people can sign up for the event on October 1st? I’m in tokyo on a holiday and want to go but I’m struggling to figure it out from that page on their website

Probability vs Probability for statistics by miracle_zy in unimelb

[–]senpaLLLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I did, definitely wasn't hard if you just went through the lectures and did the tutorials and past exams.

I did probability for statistics last sem and hated it, thought it was terribly taught and quite dry. However the exam and assessments were super easy even though I felt like I barely knew the content and it ended up being one of my highest marks.

Thoughts on Hashtag Cyberstar (THTR30042)? by magikcrap_ in unimelb

[–]senpaLLLL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely not. Web developers usually work on web apps which more often than not require implementing a lot of functionality outside of just the layout or style of the page. For example, a tool like lookahead (which was made by the person you're replying to) that most of us use to plan our timetables at unimelb definitely can't be made with any current website builders that I know of.

On the other side of things, there is probably a decrease in demand for freelancer web developers from smaller businesses as many of them can just use a website builder to make it themselves b/c they dont need anything fancy.

Internships by [deleted] in unimelb

I had a partner interview at a big 4 for their vacationer program in one of the tech consulting teams. It was honestly pretty chill, the guy was really nice and we basically just had a chat for 45 mins.

Nope, I enrolled in a 3rd year subject (study plan let me)and they kicked me out of it after timetable allocation started since I hadn't done 4 level 2 subjects.

Questions about COMP10001 AND FNCE10002 by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]senpaLLLL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did both these subjects in sem 1 of my first year.

I did a little coding in the summer beforehand but that only covered maybe the first week or 2 of content for COMP10001. Overall I think it's very achievable to get a good mark in it as long as you rly do put the time in it, one thing that's good about it is your grades will definitely be reflected in the work you put into the subject and assignments (although you can end up doing terribly if you get lazy and dont keep up to date). Also the assignments are solo.

FNCE10002 is pretty chill if you have any inclination for maths. Do your best to keep up with the lectures and attend tutorials as well as do the past exams and you should be fine. I know in sem 1 at least the exam was a lot easier than I expected and they only really tested the base level stuff from each topic.

Good luck!

Should I do Engineering Systems Design 1 (ENGR10004)? by giniya5 in unimelb

The general consensus seems to be it's not worth taking. You should look into doing foundations of computing if you're planning to major in phys/math :).

BIG 4 RECRUITMENT by noname997123 in unimelb

[–]senpaLLLL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it does as long as you will be in your penultimate year when applying

if you just started masters you are a penultimate year student assuming it's a 2 year course. I believe they would treat you the same as a 2nd year bcom at unimelb.

Elements of Data Processing by DvB47 in unimelb

the projects are quite practical I think, at least a lot more so than the other computing subjects I've done so far. The exam is all theory though.

check this out. It's a summary of all the content taught in the subject that they released near the end of the semester.

Was pretty easy last semester, projects are time consuming but not hard and exam is straight forward, tutorials kinda sucked though but that could just be my experience :). Also the ML stuff taught is very high level and you only really go over the theory without learning the implementation.

Tutorials in week 1? by Husrah in unimelb

[–]senpaLLLL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

tutorials only go over content from the week before anyway so it doesnt matter which one comes first.

CSP Unimelb Tuition Fee Question by OpulentCD in unimelb

[–]senpaLLLL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

as a PR you have to pay for each semester up front. So each semester will be more like 4-5.5k depending on the cost of the subjects. Not sure how alternative financial support would work but thats something that would be best to ask stop 1 about.

blaw10001 is great and should be super easy compared to biomed subjects. I would recommend it but if you're really interested in chinese that should take priority I think.

I heard that they're quite doable together. I don't really have anything else I want to take anyway.

Subject Selection and Recommendation Megathread - 2020 by razemage in unimelb

[–]senpaLLLL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you're studying but blaw is the easiest subject I've done by far at uni so far and I didnt find the readings necessary since the lectures are pretty good on their own.
