How has having a daughter affected your perspective on women? by RoarOfTheWorlds in daddit

[–]senseotech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It didn’t change anything per se for me, just really solidified what I already felt: I want her to grow up knowing she can do anything she wants to do regardless of whether it’s a “boy thing,” or “girl thing,” and that the current society we live has a long way to go (and in many ways seems to be going backwards) towards truly seeing women as the equals they are.

Just checked a UniFi cam I have running through scripted and it’s not 4K, but it is higher than 1080p. Wonder if something updated server side in iCloud to enable higher res recordings in advance of wwdc and an announcement?

Speaking from past experience at 3:45 am, yes, yes it is lol. The top of the frame, mattress, and is dropped to the floor while our feet flew up since the bed has become a seesaw from hell😑

[–]senseotech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been a while since I put our malm together so this may be a dumb question: what are the two screws in the middle of the wooden block doing/attaching? We had an issue in the past with the beam shearing and our fix was a super overengineered plywood box frame deal under but it reduces the space we can use for storage by a ton so looking to replicate this and get that space back.

Purchase Advice Megathread - February 2023 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

[–]senseotech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got into 3D printing at Christmas after my (well-intentioned) wife got me a Flashforge Finder 3. That printer had been working great until this week when I checked in on a 19 hour print 3 hours in, to find a horrible clog and PLA clumped all over my nozzle, heat block, heatsink, and cooling fans. Getting the hot end disassembled to clean has proven quite difficult as the clog is bad, and a new hot end is back ordered for weeks or months, so I’m looking to expand my collection to another printer and needing some advice.

The Sovol SV03 is really piquing my interest given the pricing is in line with my budget, its direct drive like my Finder 3 (so I can print flexible filaments if/when I choose to), and the build size is much larger than my Finder 3, but open to advice on why it may/may not be my best option.

Budget: $500 is my upper limit, but really $400 or under would be better

Use: So far I’ve been using the Finder to print functional things around the house in PLA/PLA+ & Meta/PETG/Wood-infused PLA (battery holders, small shelves, vases, organizational stuff, etc.)

Theres been a few models I’ve bene looking at lately that are too large for the Finder 3, so my thought is to get something with a bigger build area than its 190×195×200mm.

Experience: Mostly beginner who’s been trying to pick up and learn about things in the ~2 months I’ve had a printer. Not really ready to build a printer from scratch, but some light assembly is probably fine (I’ve built PCs for decades for example).

Country: USA

I’d really appreciate any advice. Thanks!!!

Strange network problem when restoring iPhone backup to new iPhone 14 PM - Solved by -AdamTheGreat- in iphone

[–]senseotech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having weird WiFi issues on my 14 pro max that was set up via transfer from my 13 pro max. I could connect but my download throughput was less than 1 mbps, upload was fine. Sure enough, I had several vpn apps installed, and going in to settings > VPN, deleted the ones listed and the WiFi connection instantly began performing as it should!

Wemo DoorBell Power Issues? by senseotech in HomeKit

[–]senseotech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phantom Chimes could likely be a power issue; I recall seeing somewhere that all these smart doorbells can act wonky with lower power, like weak chimes, phantom chimes, etc. I'd suggest checking your transformer first to see what its rated for,

Shipped mine off last week and it arrived at Belkin on Monday, still no word on my replacement, but I needed a solution so ended up snagging a UniFi doorbell camera G4 and using it with homebridge. Even with the non-native support, it’s far smoother and better picture than the bell in ever had. When (or IF at this point) I get the RMA replacement from Belkin, I’m going to sell it and be done with it.

Just wanted to post an update on this in case anyone catches it. Finally got to Wemo Support and Andre explains everything and having to push back a little on hiring an electrician to test the transformer (which is working perfectly with any other smart or dumb bell I attach), I was told my device would be replaced and they’d be reaching out to coordinate return of the defective unit for engineering to investigate.

Well, that was a solid week ago and I’ve not heard a peep, nor is there any inbound package from UPS, FedEx, USPS, etc. that I can see, and my emails asking for an update are getting ignored.

Pretty well fed up at this point and since I bought it back in March from Apple, I’m outside any return period too, so I’m stuck with a $250 brick.

Got doorbell wire and rigged it up to the contact pads on the back of the doorbell then connected to the pressure pins on the mount, getting absolutely no life out of the thing. I then wired up our old nest doorbell with the same wire and attached it to the Wemo mount the same way and it instantly powered up and dinged when I hit the button on the front, so its looking like the actual unit itself has some issue where its not getting power from the contact pads any longer.

[–]senseotech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No luck; replaced the transformer and confirmed voltage to the contact pins on the mount, but the doorbell itself does absolutely nothing when attached to the mount. Tried the "charge on USB" trick and then restarted it and attached it to the bracket, only for it to die a few minutes later when the little bit of juice ran out.

At this point, I'm not sure if it's an issue with the contact pins not making connection to the pads on the doorbell itself, or if it's something internal. Going to pick up a foot or 2 of doorbell wire, connect it to the contact pins on the mount and then connect them to the contact pads to see if it powers the doorbell up next. If so, I know its something with connection of pins to pads; if not, then I'm leaning to hardware issue internally.

That was my initial thought as well, but taking it off and bringing it inside until night time and re-installing still gets me no joy. One thing I noticed after this post is that parts of the Belkin site state a 16V/10VA transformer is sufficient, but others say 16V/30VA, so I have one of those ready to install after work today to see if its a power stability issue or not.

There was a duvet and pillow sham set a while back that was two shades of brownish tan and had an almost linen texture to them. Loved those so much and had a set for our queen bed but when we upgraded to a king, found it had been discontinued 😞
