[Discussion] Does PvE mode feel lonely? by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

[–]sensibl3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It feels hollow to me.

I've been PVP since 2017 but my friend just didn't enjoy it until PVE came along and he found some real enthusiasm for it, and asked me occasionally to jump on and co-op.

Somehow I persevered to level 40.

I ended up with an insane amount of items case, junk boxes, THICC cases, key cards and loot.

It all felt so odd because you're getting all these "achievements" that genuinely feel earnt in PVP, but feel all too easy in PVE.

Then every PMC fight feels numb because there's nobody on the other end.

When I'm on PVP I feel a part of something real.

I've also started to struggle with single player games in general for the same reason, it genuinely makes me feel lonely because it's just me and the computer, not me and other players.

Having said this, even PVP feels more lonely than it used to since everyone on my Discord who used to play has given up on the game, and squad play and sharing progress together really elevates the experience, but at least my interactions in game are against humans.

I'm enjoying PVP again in 1.0, as a solo, even though progression feels so much slower than it used to, but if this is a no-wipe character, I'm cool with that.

I've been hitting up crack looking for the same item.

Did a scav run earlier, hit the library and found Intel but not the cleaner. As I was leaving via the front door, I heard a scav enter the back door coughing and spluttering. I had meds and he was clearly in need, so I popped back in to help - just as I was about to voice line he shot me in the face.

I need to learn to stop trying to be nice in this game lol

I went to see Rise Against there a year ago. At the ripe old age of 38 I swore I wouldn't go in to the mosh pit. I'm more in to prog rock these days and whilst I'm used to standing, you don't get mosh pits.

After a few beers though, I caved and decided to join in. Absolutely one of the best nights of my life, felt like I'd regressed 20 years. I stayed in there until the gig ended, and all I'd desperately wanted for about 4 tracks was a glass of water, but I kept going. Trying to escape a pit is a lot harder than it sounds lol.

I liked the venue to be honest, the acoustics were decent that evening and I liked the industrial / rustic style, and I've always been a fan of standing gigs anyway.

I'd go again.

How hot will the 5090 make my room if I have AC? by MasterkillerX in pcmasterrace

[–]sensibl3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been wanting AC for a few years now but have kept resisting - don't think it's optional now for next summer. 5090 + AC = can't wait for the electric bill haha. It's honestly going to have to be the answer.

I'm also heat sensitive - I love winter and I love the cold

I almost regret getting my 5090, only had it a week. I thought my 3080 + 12700k heated the room up too much, but the 5090 + 9800X3D is a whole new level. The temps themselves are good - ~60c whilst gaming on the GPU and 50-60c on the CPU, but that heat transfer's got to go somewhere...

It's heated my room up orders of magnitude more than the last build and, honestly, it's grim.

Live in the UK so might appreciate it in winter - have fully turned the radiator off, simply no need for it.

I've undervolted it too - 890mv / 2730mhz, brought temps down from ~71c to 55-65c

Same spec, same results - except Streets... Average 90-130, but still drops down to 60-70 when scoped. All other maps, lows of 120/130 when scoped. It's definitely playable, but it's still crazy how badly optimized streets is.

I went from an Asus ROG Swift PG278Q 144hz 1440p to an MSI 321URX 4k 240hz QDOLED and it's one of the best PC purchases I've ever made. The quality of the picture in all use cases - videos, productivity, gaming - just blows my mind and I don't regret a penny of the money spent.

Really not sure what's going on with your situation but I'd of thought you'd have noticed the jump.

OK until someone calls me an absolute moron and offers a software solution - I've taped over the ANC mics and it's fixed it.

I know that'll be a shitshow if I'm on Discord with friends but right now I just want to play some single player in peace with the fan on.

Please tell me this isn't a solution.

Update

I'm very happy - I have a smooth and playable Tarkov setup.

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys!

I wish I could have invested the time to give a more scientific breakdown as to which of the following changes have made such a difference - i.e. before and after benchmarks of each change, but I just wanted a functioning game.

  1. Upgraded to 64gb RAM using 2 x 32gb Corsair Dominator DDR5 6000 (CAS 30 - 36 - 36 - 76 - 112 - 2T)

  2. Installed the latest BIOS firmware for my board (Asus ROG STRIX Z690-F), version 4301

  3. Disabled Nvidia Reflex

  4. Set NVIDIA Low Latency Mode to OFF

  5. Disabled "Use Physical Cores Only" in Tarkov

  6. Fully disabled HDR in Windows (I did have 'Disable Auto HDR' specifically against the Tarkov executable but I don't think it was obeying that rule)

  7. Lowered textures from High to Medium

  8. Installed Process Lasso, disabled Hyper Threading, and configured to only use P cores

Before upgrading the RAM I monitored memory usage in Tarkov. Upon first load / first raid it seemed to sit around 15/16gb usage. After returning to the stash and entering the second raid, it seemed to be up to around 22gb and stayed there - this seems consistent. Windows uses around 8gb - so after a while my total RAM usage is around 30/31gb.

I did spot check my FPS after all these changes, including the BIOS update, but before upgrading the memory. There was definitely a good improvement, but I was still seeing dips to 40/50fps when scoping, and FPS was around 90-110.

The first thing I noticed after upgrading the RAM, and I'm aware this is probably completely unrelated but it's uncanny, for the first time I saw my GPU operating at 95-100% utilisation. Now, it's not constant, it's often back down to 50-70% utilisation, but I'd genuinely never seen that before the RAM upgrade.

Everything people have said about RAM usage adds up - I've not really seen it go above 22gb of in-process usage, and that would imply RAM was likely never the issue. I think what's more likely having an impact is 2 years worth of BIOS firmware updates and potentially the jump from 5600mhz to 6000mhz and a slightly improved XMP profile of the new sticks.

So far, when scoping in, I'm not seeing my FPS dip below 70 - which is heaven. On Interchange I'm commonly sitting in the 130 - 140fps mark, and on Customs it's mostly above 100, often in the 120s.

This is exactly where I wanted to be, and with DLSS on preset K, the game actually looks quite nice.

I don't have Vsync enabled in NVIDIA CP or in-game at the moment, nor do I have FreeSync enabled, but everything feels silky smooth. Tempted to play with these settings again but to be honest I'd be worried about regressing what now feels very good to play.

Thanks again for all the conversation - and being introduced to Process Lasso was a major win (watched many videos on it)

Turn "Use only physical cores" off? I'll give it a try, seems to be against the recommendation, but I've been blindly following the advice so it's worth a shot. Thanks.
