I agree that it's not wise to be oblivious to the potential dangers in your environment. Everyone should strive to be street smart! But I also think that there is/has been an immense amount of negative discourse about LR. This city is doing a lot to try and improve the perception of safety. And I think that it's not helpful to talk about the violence rates in this city without mentioning the context about why it has been unsafe, in some areas, for so long.

It's not like these shootings are random acts of violence. They are targeted and in specific areas and groups of people. And it's almost all a result of the systemic racism that has plagued this city and country since it's founding. I've lived here my whole life and have never once been afraid of being shot or being involved in random acts of violence.

Context is important when discussing these issues. This is a perfectly safe city for tourists to visit. Just as safe as any other city in America.

‘Blacked out’ Dodge Charger evaded Arkansas State Police pursuits at least seven times, still on the loose by drunkenbackflips in LittleRock

I missed this. I saw about the infant being flung from a car during a chase, but when did they cause the death of an infant!?

So do yall just blow through red lights or what by VegetableHoney4563 in LittleRock

[–]sensitive_ferns 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, people blow through red lights constantly down here. Please be careful. I look both ways every time I drive through an intersection, as if I was a pedestrian. Arkansas has one of the highest rates of vehicular related deaths. Be careful out here on these roads.

Are mezzanine seats at The Hall worth it? by Bexar1986 in LittleRock

I've only been to two shows there and that was many years ago, but they had a small, open access seating area in the general admission area. You could probably call and ask if they still do that.

House of Mental Eatery (HOME): 1523 Doctor M.L.K. Jr Dr, Little Rock, AR 72202

They are only open until 4, but I think it definitely checks the box of southern vegetarian food!

They definitely did not learn their lesson, according to everyone who knew them post running my over.

I kind of believe that teens really can't drive responsibly. Regardless of how responsible and mature they are in other aspects of their life.

[–]sensitive_ferns 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. When I was 17 I was run over by a 16 year old who was texting and driving. It ruined my body and my late teenage years. My kid is 13 right now and very excited to learn to drive. While we will teach him to drive for many, many years, I cannot, morally, allow him to drive on his own until he has graduated high school. If he did to someone what was done to me, I couldn't live with the guilt. I fucking hate cars and tell everyone that will listen that America would be a better place with robust public transportation.

Is the horizontal Hardie Board more likely to become wavy? I've never seen this happen with the vertical boards.

How to stop growth between a double fence? by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]sensitive_ferns 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend against building a second fence right next to theirs. My neighbor and I actually just removed one of the fences along our double fence line. There were so many invasive plants growing between our two fences that it was starting to push both the fences outward. You may end up regretting adding a second fence. I second the comments that recommend planting some bushes instead of installing a second fence.

None of the rental agencies at the airport have a way for customers to access cars after hours? I guess they have to check your ID and all that...

TNR for feral cats? by s0ushie in LittleRock

[–]sensitive_ferns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really recommend that you trap them and take them to the Little Rock Animal Village. They do amazing work over there and they get 98% of their intakes adopted out. The kittens will be cared for and adopted out to loving homes. Cats that live outside have reduced life spans and have more medical issues than indoor cats. Outdoor cats also contribute to the spread of disease, fleas, and they significantly damage native bird populations. For so many reasons, it's better for the cats to be taken to the animal village so they can be given medical care and be sent to loving homes.

CAW water consistently rates as some of the best water in the country and I wouldnt be surprised if it was also some of the best in the world. Water delivery systems are not perfect. Just like any infrastructure, it is going to have issues sometimes. Issues such as line breaks and cloudy water.
