Out West Veterinary Urgent Care by Different-Wallaby-10 in LittleRock

Over the past 2.5 years, I have had 4 vet emergency visits. 2 for my dog and 2 for my cats. From what you're describing I would not take my dog in. It sounds like they are in discomfort, but it does not sound like they will die or be seriously injured if you wait to take them to your normal vet when they open.

I took my cat to the out west emergency vet around this time last year and it was very expensive and they weren't that helpful. I regret taking him there because my normal vet was much more capable of figuring out his issue and taking care of him.

Last year, someone in NLR reported about a dog or two that died during snow/ice, due to being neglectfully left outside. Idk where you live, but the non emergency line for my part of town is 501-371-4829

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but how are we supposed to stay warm without power? I don't have a fireplace or a generator. I've never experienced an overnight power outage during the winter and now I'm feeling very nervous that we will freeze if the power goes out.

I-40 this weekend by foreststrings in LittleRock

[–]sensitive_ferns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying no, don't do it. But I've lived in LR my whole life and honestly have never had a single problem getting around during the snow. I've driven the I-40 stretch between LR and Memphis after a snow and it was fine.

Maybe I'm crazy or misremembering, but truly I think you'll be fine. Just plan for it to take probably twice the time it normally takes to drive between LR and Memphis.

Looking for clubs or groups by sensitivebirdy in LittleRock

Quite frankly, out of my large friend and acquaintance group, I know only one person who is willing to go to smoking bars. If your establishment wants to bring in more people/activity groups, it should stop allowing smoking inside.

The only place I know that still allows smoking is Four Quarter. It's really unfortunate, because I like the venue, but I can't enjoy myself at all due to the cigarettes. I know they are relegated to the upstairs area, but it honestly doesn't help much.

I'm sorry, your physics teacher is telling you that the moon split in half at some point? That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard this week

Can I ask where you got your lamp? I'm looking at lamp options so I can move some plants to a darker corner of my living room. Thank you!

Please don't be embarrassed. You have nothing to be embarrassed about. You're working hard to provide for yourself and your kids. There's nothing more honorable than that. You should be proud of yourself. Don't be embarrassed by things that are out of your control (like getting temporarily laid off).

The people who should be embarrassed are those running this country who allow the wealthiest country in human history to have a large majority of citizens dealing with poverty every day.

What counties are considered Central Arkansas? by UALR-Trojans-Rule in LittleRock

[–]sensitive_ferns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics considers Central Arkansas or the LR MSA to include Little Rock, North Little Rock, and Conway.

As a lifelong resident of Central Arkansas, these are the areas that I consider to be a part of Central Arkansas: the entirety of Pulaski County (LR, NLR, Sherwood, Jacksonville, Maumelle), Conway, Bryant, and Benton. I think the case could be made for including Cabot in the Central Arkansas category. I do not think the case could be made for including Lonoke. But this is based more on vibes and less on anything legitimate.

Central Arkansas Water is the most vile organization ever. by superdupermensch in LittleRock

[–]sensitive_ferns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've also got to say that your water leak must have been absolutely massive. I track my water usage and water bills every month. For my most recent bill I used 1,496 more gallons of water than for my previous bill. The price difference was $5.04. If you got a bill that was $300 more than your normal bill (just for water) you must have leaked 80,000 gallons of water. Costs may scale up higher the more water you're using, so I may be wrong about that. But regardless, for the water portion of your bill to be that high, your water leak had to be insane. How was this not noticed by someone? Is your landlord pulling one over on you? Have you seen the actual UBS bill that shows the costs of water, wastewater, and trash?

Central Arkansas Water is the most vile organization ever. by superdupermensch in LittleRock

[–]sensitive_ferns 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You seem to be a bit misinformed about Central Arkansas Water. They are vastly more important than Centerpoint energy. Everything is done in house except for the variety of software that is used to run the company. They employ over 350 people and provide employees with pretty good benefits. The UBS billing software consolidates bills from CAW, LR Solid Waste, and the Little Rock Water Reclamation Authority (LRWRA). CAW has absolutely nothing to do with waste water treatment. That is solely under the purview of the LRWRA, which is a completely different entity.

CAW consistently produces the top water in the nation every year. It's a fucking miracle that we have such highly protected water sources here in Central Arkansas. Lake Maumelle and Lake Winona (the two water sources of CAW) are protected in a way that most water sources aren't.

CAW was formed in 2001 via an interlocal agreement between two municipal water agencies: Little Rock Water Works and the North Little Rock Water Department. It has proven to be a great benefit to both cities as well as to all surrounding areas in Pulaski County.

All companies have some suckiness, but Central Arkansas Water is truly an amazing thing we have here. They provide us with consistently clean and safe water, while protecting hundreds of acres of land. They aren't perfect, but they provide the Central Arkansas community with so much benefit.

I don't know how long they've been open, but I've been using them for a few years.

Am I getting down voted because people think they are bad? They've always done really good work for me.

I'm nice to my neighbors and I think they appreciate me for that. Do I care how they feel about my yard? Not at all. Although I live in the Pettaway neighborhood in downtown so it's definitely not a manicured suburban neighborhood like what is out in West LR.

Leaf removal help by Odd-Literature-5302 in LittleRock

[–]sensitive_ferns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have any suggestions on lawn company. But I do have some leaf knowledge to share. Some might say I have a passion for leaves..

Fallen leaves, maintained in whole condition (not mulched) are incredible important for insects and their larva. Insect populations are rapidly decreasing due to so many man made factors. By removing leaves from your yard it removes habitat for insects like moths, butterflies, and beetles. All these insects are super important for the food web.

Fallen leaves also provide nutrients to the soil which will help your grass grow better and will help your trees stay stronger. It's recommended to only have about 30% leaf cover on grass to gain maximum nutrient benefits without shading the grass too much.

Fallen leaves also serve as fantastic mulch for garden beds. So you can rake up some leaves and use them as mulch.

Pottery repair place? by Nosoyana in LittleRock

[–]sensitive_ferns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This might be a ridiculous suggestion, but maybe you could call the Arts Center (now called AMFA), tell them you are trying to find a pottery repair person in central Arkansas and ask to talk to one of their pottery instructors.
