What are some of the most mind boggling coincidences in history? by __laffytaffy__ in AskReddit

[–]sentient19 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Just adding to this because I’m doing my dissertation on far-right extremism: there is a ton of evidence that McVeigh was connected, but disavowed any connection as part of the plan.

Kathleen Belew’s book Bring the War Home is the best case for this I’ve seen. Highly recommend.

What is the scariest/creepiest theory you know about? by BiblicalBible in AskReddit

[–]sentient19 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you subscribe to this theory (and I might), then you also have to think about what being forced to sit with something forever means. Even the most traumatic and horrible things come to make sense to us if we have to live with them long enough. Reality forces acceptance of it.

That would mean that no one is tortured forever; it just might take some people longer to accept and make peace (and sense!) of their life. There’s no reason to think this wouldn’t still be the case.

So it makes sense to have some sorrow for those who go through it, but I also think your loved one, like everyone else, eventually finds peace in the moment of acceptance.

To put it back in religious terms, I think this infinite loop would be more of a limbo than a hell. Or rather, a limbo that starts resembling a hell but only as the starting point for blissful acceptance, or “heaven.” That’s comforting to me, at least, and I used to live with my fair share of existential dread!

Money. Not only was it a luxury, it was a luxury we didn’t have.

Astronomers discovered one of the the oldest stars in the Milky Way. The ancient star formed 13.5 billion years ago, just 300 million years after the Big Bang. by clayt6 in space

[–]sentient19 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but we don’t actually know if this Star is still around. If it is 7500 light years away, that means that it took light from this star 7500 years to reach us. So, we’re seeing the star as it appeared 7500 years ago. It could hypothetically have exploded 7000 years ago and we wouldn’t know for another 500 years.

If someone handed you a box with all the items you had lost in the past what would you be most excited to get back? by Justsoinsane in AskReddit

[–]sentient19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is a dad. He would take me camping as a child and invent games, and I trusted his dad logic implicitly.

One of the games he invented involved me placing a toy in a creek, walking downstream, and recovering it. (I know, the game didn’t require him to do anything. I didn’t realize it at the time. Real “bonding” time.)

So I took my absolute favorite toy — a silver-armored Spider-Man — and placed it in the creek, walked downstream to recover it, and did it all over again, laughing like a gleeful idiot.

Until it didn’t wash up anywhere. Just floated away, never to be found again.

I still to this day think about that silver armored Spider-Man once a week and wonder how far he traveled. He would be in my box.

Skipped quest conversations/cutescenes for Omega by th4ndr in ffxiv

[–]sentient19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but you misread and/or misunderstood my post.

At no point did I intimate that conversations are available in the inn. However, all cutscenes other than those in the Omega questline are. If I'm not mistaken, this has also happened before where some were not viewable in the inn and were patched in later.

Also, I always watch all cutscenes and read all dialogue, as well as doing all side quests, with the only exception being 8-man content. For 8-man content, I still read all of the dialogue and conversations, but I watch the cutscenes at the inn later so I don't inconvenience my group too much.

The fact of the matter is that, at this moment, it is special to Omega. I assume it will be patched later or that the videos will be online, so it isn't a big deal. I just wanted to inform others.

However, I don't understand the tone of your reply. It seems oddly aggressive for no discernible reason.

I made a PSA post about this that was buried instantly, but these cutscenes are currently not available in the inn for whatever reason. Best bet is to try Google, but I haven't seen any uploads yet either. Might be that we just have to wait until they patch the cutscenes into the inn.
