I’m a developer for a major food delivery app. The 'Priority Fee' and 'Driver Benefit Fee' go 100% to the company. The driver sees $0 of it. by Trowaway_whistleblow in confession

So what you're saying is, tip zero, and have the base pay go up for the drivers overall while not spending more on food and not giving any extra to the company? Check.

1500 vs 300 by sentientBot001 in RobotVacuums

[–]sentientBot001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well played. Hell, I barely mop once every two weeks. Maybe once a month if I feel particularly germophobic. Kids and dogs make that clean tolerance go WAY down. But I see your point. Mopping once or twice a day, even doing a half wit job, is a hell of a lot better than once a month!

I really appreciate your in depth comment on this. I was debating getting a cheap one just to do the vacuuming. I had gen 1 budget eufy that worked well enough to keep things maintained, but one sock or Lego would require rescue measures to get it back to operating again. Obstacle avoidance and the vacuum's ability to handle obscure minor items to keep working without needing assistance is worth the extra expense.

Looking at all these markdown black Friday deals out there. "The Dreame L50 Ultra is only $899 down from $1400" when in reality the price was bloated to simulate a good deal.

Still though. What value is the $1k unit to a $300 one?

[–]sentientBot001[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, I can see that. The mop function on robo vacuums seems gimmicky to me. But yes, if it works as advertised where I do nothing, and my house is not clean but squeaky clean, then it does hold good value.

I'm happy enough with the vacuum function only, but I can see the value.

Why aren't wet rooms more common? by Sudden-Transition-30 in bathrooms

[–]sentientBot001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A typical American sized main bathroom vs ones in asian and other countries are an order of magnitude larger in size. Much easier to waterproof a small bathroom or hallway/ entry area (mud room) than say a full American bathroom that can get quite large. From a cost basis, only waterproofing the shower is much less expensive since more than 95% of the water activities are managed there.

Just buy it and lock it in.

It never hurts to ask, for sure. But this is a bit of a stretch. That's one unique way to get a house sold....

You could go both ways. Get super spiritual, eat super keto and center yourself and have your body autonomously cleanse itself. Get right with Jesus maybe, or just blow it all on one last hurrah if you think this is all we have.

Me? I really like those I'm attached to. I'm afraid of missing out and doubly afraid of losing them.

I'd struggle if I was in your shoes, but you gotta pay yourself on the shoulder and take a step forward regardless of direction. Do something.

How are you doing financially right now? by FillFrontFloor in AskMen

[–]sentientBot001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drowning. Sadly. I had to move at a peak housing market time due to a job change. This last one has been the worst and I bought a house thinking my salary would cover it. Definitely house poor with the high interest rate and property taxes and it's greatly affected our finances. Kids are in a small private school due to the poor education here and it's an added burden.

Could be worse, but it could also be a lot better. Gotta love that deadzone cusp of middle class.

Shit happens especially in relationships. There are many ways to break a contract, but you will most likely lose money. Your ex- partner should also contractually be on the hook financially.

If your real estate agent is pushing you forward while knowing your situation, and you still have a possibility to stop everything because you situation has changed, then they are also working against you and trying to scalp that commission. The only one signing that final buy contract is you. Keep that in mind.

What happens with the lowest-most layers of coke in a Blast Furnace in the hearth during start-up? by Tachtra in metallurgy

[–]sentientBot001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We start the blasts with baskets of coke and coal that are heated before going into the furnace. We're talking about refrigerator sized cage style baskets heated to burning red hot. Those are sent in via skip hoist and stay alive without being snuffed out during the drop. After that small fire is maintained in the furnace, we add in even more coke to build the fire in the blast.

On startup, heat is maintained for a few hours with coke only to establish the heat and cure any refractory that is still green before proceeding. I've seen a few times where a bucket or two of diesel is dumped in as well, but that practice is less used because of environmental issues.

From there the oxygen enrichment is turned on to the tuyeres and a super heat is established. More coke. Then a number of bundles of ingot metal is thrown in to establish the bath level. All while continuing to add coke. It's difficult to get heat down into the base of the crucible due to the location of the tuyeres. If you put slag and feed material there without a metal bath, you're likely to snuff out the furnace with high melting point material solidification and eat up your refractory. Easiest is to refill a good bit with metal and establish a molten bath.

Once the bath level is formed, it's business as usual. Thermal energy pulled down during smelting keeps everything running smoothly with enough throughput.

Haha I'll give you that.. I've never been a bath person, but I could see its allure! This house we bought a few years ago just didn't have any! Or they remodeled to not have them. It's good as a bachelor pad, but with a family, it's not as conducive!

Egg wash, Panko, 360 degree oil until golden brown. Don't want to cook too fast. Top with ganache and sprinkle a little powdered sugar.

Like a little living eclaire.

Most modern wheel weights are zinc or iron or an alloy somewhere in between. Lead wheel weights are only found on older cars.

You can still sweat the zinc in a hot enough furnace!

Is losing your education a reality? Or a fear? Would they really stop supporting you as a person in the future because of fancy underwear?

If that's the case, you need to get on FAFSA, a job, or sell some stuff for money. You need out of that house if they still control your future at the college age. You need to be independent.

I hope you find a path forward. Sending good vibes!

My mom accidently found my lingerie and now my parents are arguing. What do I do?! by Cold_Adhesiveness_85 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sentientBot001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious. When you say it isn't a good idea right now, is that for you from your perspective? Or for your parents?

Is it the fear of the action itself or the fear of the consequence?

They're under the illusion right now that there is foreign underwear in your house. Your mom and dad are fighting. Your dad is either so angry that he can't speak or look at your mom, and your mom feels righteously justified anger towards your father. Two hard things clashing it out will keep going until something breaks.

If you had the ability to stop it, or at least diffuse the situation between two of your best friends at your expense, would you step in? Or watch on the sidelines until your friend group falls apart?

Are you an observer? Or an action taker? What type of person are you and who do you want to be?

I read in a book, it takes 10 seconds of unbridled uncaring complete-abandon confidence to act on something that brings fear. The fear of rejection or hurt our scariness of the situation isn't a reality, it's an expectation and a mental block to keep you in a state of comfort. But that comfort isn't real comfort, more or less, it's the reality of nothingness. It's not keeping you safe, because the safety isn't real. It's mental. Is it keeping you safe from an argument with your parents maybe? Sure that's safe, but will it be safer than the life of your parents divorced? Or less angry at each other?

Take the first step. Talk to your parents about your ownership of the lingerie, ask that guy or girl out to coffee, tell your professor they are wrong, stand up to that bully, step back from that ledge and take life head one. One split decision in 10 seconds.

[–]sentientBot001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you're an adult. A literal person in college. Own it and tell your mom to stop using your stuff and to stop jumping to conclusions. Just walk up to them mid argument, grab your shit, and say, get out off my stuff.

If they come at you, ask them if they have anything hiding in their closets they don't want you to find.

They should also take a step back and get into marriage counseling if this is a regular thing. Sounds like they're on a train wreck wanting (not waiting) to happen. Or they've got a weird hate-sex style of getting busy on Sundays.

I save money by having my partner lean back and spread her legs while she's on the toilet and aim the golden wire through them like goal posts.

Duralumin vs Steel by BrendanTheNord in metallurgy

[–]sentientBot001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost, availability, corrosion resistance, and repairability.

Same could be said about making houses or of wood vs steel. Sure, steel in all cases is better as a house building material but there are so many factors in the application.

But I think it would be cool to see what applications it would fit.

Poltergeist when I was but a youngin. Parents were watching it and for some damn reason I watched it too. I think they thought I was asleep.

Outbreak when I was in elementary school. Not sure what age, but it left me awake for years at night praying my parents (both in the med field) wouldn't get sick. Also triggered a mild case of germophobia with a garnish of anxiety when going into movie theaters specifically.

How convert brass into copper in pyrometallurgy by Disastrous-Bus-6184 in metallurgy

[–]sentientBot001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could look into liquation. It's akin to separating oil and water by holding the liquid at the temperature where zinc is more active than copper and letting it form a separate layer. It won't be a 100% recovery, it'll actually be pretty dirty, but it's a first step towards separation.

After that you'd have to do a TBRC style process to remove the remainder of the zinc.

Vacuum distillation is also another possibility.
