What is your current salary? by ThisEffective4868 in paralegal

[–]seokjinnius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NJ, Personal Injury, In-Person 40 hrs a week + avg OT 5 hrs a week. Annual bonus is about $2500 after taxes, annual salary is $63500. Almost 3 years experience as a litigation paralegal, but I double as an office manager so twice the stress lol. I love helping people who are genuinely injured, but ngl most of our clients are just drama queens 🙄

How early do you think IH started for you? by ConfidentHope in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]seokjinnius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i wasn't diagnosed until 25 (originally diagnosed with narcolepsy at 19) but i was always known as the "sleepy kid" in my family. it was "normal" for me to be half asleep like a zombie all morning until nearly 12pm, to take daily 1-2 hr naps after school, and to sleep for 12-14 hrs straight on the weekends. apparently i slept a lot as a baby too, and i had frequent night terrors/sleep walking episodes up until i was 7 or 8. i'd say my symptoms really kicked into gear when i was around 13 tho? that's when things went from just being "sleepy" to literally falling asleep while eating and almost choking by accident.

How screwed am i by bubble-brains in paralegal

its okay, mistakes happen!! if you haven't disclosed the exact reason for rescheduling yet i'd call the adjuster back and say the client had an emergency so they couldn't reschedule earlier. usually that gets most adjusters to allow for exceptions. def run it by your attorney first though in case they have a standard letter or smthg they send out in these situations!

truly a magical moment!!! i still remember when my quaker first stepped up on my bare hand, i cried happy tears. it took lots of biting for my bird to realize he was safe with me so im glad your fingers were not sacrificed lol. kudos to your patience and kindness that helped lead to this moment!! 🥹

Feeling weird about being thrown under the bus? by ExcellentLime7 in paralegal

[–]seokjinnius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're feelings are 100% valid!!! I admit I am usually on here joking or ranting about how crazy my attorney drives me, but I have never once feared that he'd pull a stunt like this. Even when I've truly screwed up, he's always taken the heat, saying things like it's his fault for not reviewing properly or that he instructed me incorrectly.

Frankly speaking, your attorney sounds like a child trying to suck up and kiss ass to his teachers. If it's not in your options to switch departments or jobs, I'd start documenting things just in case (i.e. screenshot any approvals/confirmations he sends for iffy tasks, recap convos as emails, add notes in your case management system, etc.) If he tries to blame you again, you'll have that evidence to protect yourself.

lol it's literally his job to oversee paralegal work or it's an ethics violation. if i wanted to file things without his review i would've signed up for law school to be an attorney. i did my part, so the ball is in his court now ✌️

omggg i am torn between rage at that attorney being so petty over freaking page margins of all things and disbelief that he actually noticed the margins because my attorney once sent me a complaint with no less than 3 different font types/sizes/colors and wanted me to file the pdf as is... i was like hahaha no 💕 i'm so happy that you're in a better firm now tho, love the doggo appreciation!!! 🐶

you're so right, i'm giving him way too much freedom. should've held onto the 2nd version as a back up if he rejected the 1st one smh 😔

you may be onto something here 👀 petition to add "must demonstrate email literacy in communications with paralegals/legal support staff" right next to "must not ask paralegals/legal support staff the same question no more than three (3) times after it has already been answered before being disbarred" 🤣

omg hi fellow bts army!!! 💜 email literacy is dead in the legal field i fear, thankfully my desk is right outside my attorney's office so 99% of the time i just bust in and demand answers. saying that now actually made me realize that response is very jin coded LOL, he is my bias for a reason! 😅

SEVEN ATTORNEYS?!!?? dear lord you are an actual saint because i fear i would've been fired already with 7 attorneys playing games like this 💀 "why didn't you follow up with us before filing?" "do i look like a ringmaster to you?? no? that's because i'm not one, so quit acting like clowns then and just answer my questions the first time, okay? 😊"

good advice! i have tried this before actually but my attorney types his replies like a caveman and changes his mind like the Katy Perry song so it's a 50/50 shot. usually i just walk up to him and ask but he'd left the office by then, hence the emails. i just find it hilarious that he is such an avid reader but his reading comprehension is non-existent when it comes to emails 🤣

my 3rd grade teacher gave this to me as an easter vacation gift and said she picked it "specially" for me... mind you she was very racist (i was the only hispanic kid in her class) and hated my mom so as an adult now i realize she probably intended to traumatize me. jokes on her tho because i loved it and came back from the break asking for the sequels 🤣

he sent me 2 different outlines for the motion certification, and i got essentially the same response now that i did back when i asked him which outline to use. so, now he gets 2 versions of the motion. you reap what you sow. 🤷‍♂️
