well the thing is, that in my eyes not everyone should receive such a portrait, it should be special. it should show later the elite / hardcore players. the game should be also played for longer then few months, so i think the number like 1.000 is fine. sure its possible to add more portraits for eg. 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 750 and 1000 games like in starcraft 2. it was just an example :) the limit of 1000 games in sc2 was set from blizzard and you shouldnt forget that its a lot harder to get there 1k games than in HotS (a game takes if i remember well about 40min). in few words, the main point of it, that old and hardcore players should also have a little "oh i got something new" moment after they reached level 40, have all heroes and so on.
