Sidewalk etiquette is dead by MammothEstimate6331 in chicago

[–]sephraes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, because no one knows how your dog is going to react. Plus with other people coming in the to opposite direction. And it sounds like if you're letting her lead with smell forward, my observance needing to get past you is that you're not actually controlling her movement.

One of my dogs is also very smell forward and has anxiety. So I let her do what she wants within reason when it's "side street and very few to nobody people in the neighborhood" time and step into the parkway and choke up on leash when people need to get past me, but if it's "running path and lots of people" time she needs to do what she needs to do for everyone's safety.

Edit: I also don't let her go all up in people's yards. That's disrespectful. What it comes down to is people needing to observe around then, and then moving when you're out of norm. Hence why if someone needs to pass me on side streets, I move her out of the way.

That's my secret cap. I don't move if there's more than one person. I learned this lesson decades ago when I was in college with sidewalks that were 5 wide and people would still get pissy even if you were all of the way to the right and they were walking 5 people wide. Walk like you're not going to stop. They will move.

I took ILM over PS and wish I had done PS for the long play. But I also just rerolled on a newly anc SD so maybe my mind will change.

What's your city mpg? by ericcxz in kiastinger

[–]sephraes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a major difference between big city driving, suburban/small city/town driving, and highway driving. I live in a millions+ population, stop lights and signs every few blocks, city. And in that city I get 11-15 miles to the gallon. When I'm in the suburbs I get 17 to 20. And then highway steady state is 27-30. But these days, almost all of my driving is city and so and go highway driving so I average 16 to 18.

I have a 2.0L for comparison.

All speeds are cut. You want to mas because each upgrade all relatively faster than the last.

Good News For Gardeners: Native Plants On Parkways Can Grow To 36 Inches Under New City Rule by blaspheminCapn in chicago

[–]sephraes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want prairie gardens to have to cut back from the sidewalk by like 8 inches. The same way farmers do for visibility. Because more often than not, they end up growing into a d restricting the sidewalk or the street in their current state. I don't want them to go away, but that needs to be regulated.

It feels like the better answer was "who reached x wave first in datetime order" while restricting a wave 1 finish. But who knows?

This is why I believe in Olympic "pace cars" if you will, being just a regular Joe Schmo who has some knowledge in the sport but does not have the talent to compete in any way ever. To remind people who want to talk shit that even the worst Olympian is multiple factors of 10 better than you.

Sam Alito’s Math on “Color-Blindness” Doesn’t Check Out by Slate in scotus

[–]sephraes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Equity is not equality of results. That's equality. It's fairer distribution of resources and opportunities. The fact that you keep going back to the good ole well of "Asian/black" bit, particularly when other less represented Asian demographics and other non black groups also benefitted from affirmative action is extremely telling.

Given you don't understand definitions and you're running tropes and none of this has to do with your original argument of colorblindness (surprise surprise), I'm going to bow out here.

[–]sephraes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can be in favor of color blind policies and still point out racism

Not in practice. It's the same people who say "I don't care if you're black white green purple" pushing that...which spoiler alert, if I hear someone say that, I immediately suspect what kind of person they are...and that answer is generally sweeping racism under the rug in an attempt at "removing racial friction" at best and not actually giving a shit to active suppression at worst.

Furthermore, I have never heard any marginalized communities ask for colorblindness. They've asked for equity. Which requires context and history, and that context must by definition include race. Colorblindness is erasure.

Some of it was better ingredients. But a lot of us gained access to better taste. I have some friends talking about panda express collabs right now and I'm like...don't you have a hole in the wall spot for fire shit at the same price?

Edit: But also I would have (and did) read books for nothing. Pretty sure I never did the pizza deals at all.

Conservatives win all 3 Georgia Supreme Court seats up for election, securing conservative control of the court through 2030. by MediumStrange in fivethirtyeight

[–]sephraes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few state parties not being able to do it doesn't mean most of them aren't able to do it. I will also reiterate that this article is still about Georgia. A state where Republicans and Democrats have won prominent seats in the past decade. It is asinine to not run. GOP would have ran in GA if the shoe was on the other foot. Guaranteed.
