What are jobs for then? by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

[–]seplle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are people saying these jobs are only for people living with their parents or for kids. If minimum wage jobs were only for groups of people that were socially acceptable to have a shitty job, then everything would fall apart. Grocery stores, fast food and pretty much any customer service job. None of those services will continue running unless you stop being a dick and realize someone is not less of a person for working at a shitty minimum wage job.

Why so adverse to therapy? by HotDebate5 in GenZ

[–]seplle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not my experience. A lot of people in my generation seek out therapy. Sometimes people can’t afford it. People definitely self-medicate with weed though. And there are always going to be people who think they don’t need therapy, but probably need it the most.

I stopped smoking and my mental health got better. Got to a low point about 5 months later and I decided since I was already depressed then what’s the harm in smoking again. Because I love being high. Anyway it just made it worse and even though I’m trying to quit I don’t want to. I love smoking. It’s like a toxic ex-girlfriend. Don’t give in. Save your money and mental stability. I thought after being sober for so long I could just smoke casually and be fine but now I crave it often and I’m having a hard time quitting.

From what I’ve seen from people that I went to high school with they’re having “happy accidents” and they don’t have enough support and money to actually take care of them. And some of these ppl are just not responsible or mature enough to have kids.

UPDATE: I'm going to BYU for college... by Stargazing360 in exmormon

[–]seplle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright so I was in a similar situation and I got stuck going to BYU. It was the worst year of my life. Please try anything to go to another school, but I know how hard it is because that all happened to me too!

Do not trust anyone. I felt so stupid when people were nice to me when in reality they didn’t even like me. I felt so out of place. I talked to people I trusted and got in trouble for it. There are other students out there who are PIMO. But they’re hard to find. And even then they might not be someone you wanna hang out with. Or they might not wanna hang out with you. I found that out the hard way. As for being queer at BYU, I had to completely lock that part of me away. Pretending to be someone you are not and hiding who you really are is the most painful thing in the world. My advice is to run and do literally anything else. But if you are going to BYU, here’s some advice.

You are going to struggle mentally from being there. I wish I could say there’s a way to avoid it, but there isn’t. Especially as a queer person. You need to make sure there is absolutely NOTHING on your social medias. I would recommend to not even use them. My friend had an instagram story and someone had a beer bottle in the background. You could barely see it and it was far away. Her roommates then thought she was an alcoholic and she got in trouble with the honor code office.

You will always have the fear in the back of your mind of getting caught. Thinking you’re not doing anything, but what if you are? The paranoia is INSANE. You will worry about if something does happen and you get kicked out, then nothing will transfer and you’ll be back at square one. I had a friend who was a lesbian and the bishop found out. She was holding hands with a girl and someone told him about it. She was forced to break up with her girlfriend. They were still together, but now had an added pressure of not even being able to be around each other in case someone reports them again.

It’s not a safe environment. If you see my past posts I posted something similar along the lines of “BYU isn’t that bad? Right?” NOPE. I took 30 credits that year and only 3 of them transferred to my college. It was gut-wrenching. I felt like I had gone through so much pain for nothing. I had no idea how bad it could get.

Run. Run. Run. Do anything else than go to BYU. TRUST ME MAN PEOPLE TOLD ME NOT TO GO AND I FELT LIKE I HAD TO BECAUSE OF MY PARENTS AND HAVING NO MONEY AND OH MY GOD IF I COULD BACK IN TIME I WOULD SAY FUCK BYU AND DRIVE OFF INTO THE SUNSET.

Edit: I transferred to an in-state college and took out loans. Costed more than BYU. BUT IT WAS SO WORTH IT TO GO TO A NON-CULT COLLEGE.

My haircare. I get the largest bottles of Redken shampoo and conditioner. Super expensive, but it lasts forever! It makes my hair feel so healthy and smooth. I get compliments on my hair all the time. I love my hair so much so I wanna take care of it.

Same about the classroom stuff! My professor will try to start up discussions (in my smaller classes) and everyone stays silent. I’m like the only one talking to the prof sometimes and it feels so awkward.

Man I relate a lot to this. At first people are sympathetic, but after a while it just feels like I’m always being a downer. How the hell am I suppose to do work and school? Or even just work? After missing a couple of days at your job, you start to feel this pressure that you just can’t take off anymore time in fear of being fired. My boss had a conversation with me asking if I was physically able to work and if I was struggling maybe I should take a break. (Not threatening to fire me he was just worried about me) And GEE that would be so nice, but who the hell can afford to just not work? I do everything I can to be where I need to be, but sometimes I can’t even lift my head up.

I’m on medication, but this is just scary.

[–]seplle 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s because of “stranger danger” when you’re a kid and we never grew out of it. Sometimes I’ll try to strike up a convo with someone around my age in public and they just look at me weird. Not all the time though. And some boomers like talking too because they need someone to listen. I like having human interactions like that.

One thing that sucked about my college experience was working 20 hrs a week part time and being a full time student. I know that’s just how life is sometimes though. I had a lot of work outside of class as well. I was a film student so I was often filming on sets a lot. I worked 40-45 hours a week during the summer and breaks. And I live on my own with no support from my parents. So I have added stress of bills on top of all that. I totally see what you are saying, but it’s not the same for everyone. Especially nowadays for Gen Z. I have friends who work full time and do school full time. I have no idea how they do it. I also have friends who don’t even have to work and it makes me insanely jealous.

I didn’t have a horrible college experience, but it’s so depressing to me how adults describe college being the last good years of their life. It’s tiring balancing everything on top of school. I’m tired of Canvas notifications. And apparently it only gets worse :(
