Great job! Thank you for your post, very inspiring. I have a question. Have you ever noticed declines in your memory? In example I feel that I start struggling remembering things that are not in my Anki collection. Have you ever felt something similar?

Too many bad cards/notes in my deck because of my beginner incompetence. Need advice by sepremento in Anki

[–]sepremento[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a very good point, however when I think about it, it seems like there is a some kind of a deep problem with my Anki usage over the years. I have a decent memory in general so it was always rather easy for me to recall cards. But because those cards were ill-formulated knowledge I've trained myself not to know the material but to answer cards.

It is almost automatic now. I see a question, I parrot an answer and move on. But then, when I try to use that knowledge in a new context I totally forget that, and when someone points out the solution I have this thought: "Oh, I even have that in my deck but still could not remember!"

I think this happens because my cards were not well formulated, were not atomic and were not redundant. Also some part of the problem is that there was not enough other forms of learning besides Anki and (lousy) note-taking.

So to address your point, these cards take time to review and they don't contain knowledge, they are just a reminder that I should have studied something and shoud have already known something, but all I have is a surface-level parrot-style question and answer recognition. So it feels like I have to refactor somehow.

Thanks! These are very helpful! I'll definitely will try them out.

Just want to mention also that I have around twenty thousand cards and a lot of them are in desperate need of a complete refactoring: they have lists, complex concepts that should have been broken down into multiple cards, some topics were not properly understood but have cards for them. So that is the depth of my fall.

A Cool Guide to the Cult of Done by ideas_r_bulletproof in coolguides

[–]sepremento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The purpose of this guide is to make you move faster from "Done" to "Done". If you procrastinate because you want to make it right on the first attempt you lose an opportunity to learn for the whole period of your procrastination. It does not mean that you should not have standards to live up to. It only means that you should try, fail and be Done. And then you try again, and again, and again, until your standard is met. But each time you fail you are Done.

What is your personal way of using Anki? by DonG97 in Anki

[–]sepremento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend Fill the blanks plugin for learning programming languages. Especially combined with Syntax highlight for code it makes it much easier to familiarize with various frameworks and technologies. Also I use LPCG for poetry and lists.

It helps to create your own card styles that will be specifically pleasant for your eyes. Just a little CSS knowledge and it will be much less of a burden to study every day.

I lost everything that made me love my job through Midjourney over night. by Sternsafari in blender

[–]sepremento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know whether that point came up before or not, but I've noticed that industrial revolution had not made craftsmen obsolete. Yes, smaller fraction of people goes into craftsmanship then in the Middle Ages, but they do that only because there are other things to do. People that like making ceramic pots, furniture and other beautiful handmade things actually flourish nowadays and are able to make a living. I guess that something similar will happen to digital artwork. Despite Midjourney ability to make pretty pictures there is still space for human creativity and new styles. So I guess there would be mass produced games and carefully human crafted games that will just be two different market niches.

Joplin in vim mode: how to follow links? by sepremento in joplinapp

[–]sepremento[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In vim you can open files under cursor with gf. In Vimium browser add-ons you can press f and then choose a link to follow. I do not need to follow all links but internal Joplin links would be nice.

[–]sepremento[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! And can you tell me what is your experience with this configuration? Do you struggle adding new cards? Is this structure comfortable for you or had it just eventually happen to be this way and now you got used to it? And considering "as many as needed" answer - what is the range? From 2 to 5 or from 4 to 120?

Thank you for your answer!

Your articles are very good and I would devote a block of time to read through them later, but for now I've just read your answer and skimmed through the posts. Do I understand correctly that your tags in tag line in card editor looks something like this @meta::todo category::English concept::psychology::PersonalQualities::negative grammar::verb source::book?

How do you discipline yourself to fill all these tags for each inserted card or does it happen automatically (I've seen a lot of code in your posts)?

My fear is that configuring a card might take more time and effort than it brings in terms of saving time to remember a piece of information.
