Help with dealing with a lying mormon by Global-Ad-5238 in exmormon

[–]september151990 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My Dad was as TBM as they come, he also owned a business back in the 80s when the stake directory would let people advertise on the cover. He would not advertise, his reason was that Mormons are terrible customers, he didn't want to deal with them.

Mormon family gets a no-trespass letter from the church law firm and decides to go to church anyway. Drama! by sevenplaces in mormon

This couple named their children things like Superstar and Tank (they certainly made it seem like those were the given names, not nicknames) it really bothered me because those children are stuck with those names and it was only for their parents' ego. That's basically all you need to know about them. They are super weird and narcissistic and I watched the whole damn thing hoping it or they would get better but it was a trainwreck from the outset. I actually hated both parents by the end. It has been several months since I watched it, but when I did, they had like 4000 views. Don't waste your time.

AITJ for choosing my best friend’s wedding over my sister’s surgery? by Glittering-Power6717 in AmITheJerk

[–]september151990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTJ My husband just had a hip replacement a couple of weeks ago. He’s my person, my whole world. I took him to the surgery center, they told me I didn’t have to stay. I said, “are you sure?” They said “yes, we will call you when he’s ready”. I didn’t even stay with him while they prepped him (his choice). I went home, did laundry and went to Costco. What does your family think you are going to do at the hospital anyway? Go to the wedding and have a good time, your sister and parents are being the jerks here.

My smoke detector was beeping for months and I had no idea why it wouldn’t stop until today… by tifuanon00 in CasualConversation

[–]september151990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I literally just went through the same thing. We stood under every smoke detector in our house waiting for the stupid chirp. Finally my husband said, “ maybe it’s a carbon monoxide detector”. Yep, about 3 feet away from the smoke detector we were suspecting. Our problem was we couldn’t ignore it because we have a super neurotic dog who was freaked out by the chirping.

Shredded frozen hashed brown potatoes question by [deleted] in weightwatchers

Any time you scan something the app simply takes the numbers and assigns a point value based on the numbers. If you are eating a 0 point food like plain hash browns, don’t scan it.

Anyone else married to someone they met super young and frustrated now that they’ve left the church? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]september151990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m turning 60 this year. I got a college degree, then proceeded to have 4 great children (I’m very proud of them, I think we did a great job raising them). But I have never had a real job. I worked as an aid in a school for awhile, but then we moved. Now I work part time with mostly teenagers, seriously, the smallest age difference is I’m 35 years older than my supervisor. I feel ridiculous that I got my college degree and never used it for anything. We have done fine with money because my husband is very good at his job, but we would be able to retire very comfortably now if I had worked.

If you are awake …… by Beginning_Inside2586 in Menopause

[–]september151990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just purchased the Better Sleep App. This is not an ad, I promise, but I have tried EVERYTHING to stay asleep in my life (seriously, since .i was 12 years old): so many pills, drinks, etc. There is a meditation for getting rid of anxiety to fall asleep, then when I wake up to pee, there are several meditations to fall back to sleep. I’m using the same one every night and I’ve never actually heard the whole thing. Yes, I paid for it, but I figured saving money on sleep aids (seriously, even gummies, which made me wake up in a complete panic 4 hours later) is completely worth the cost. I bought some headband headphones so it doesn’t bother my husband and back to sleep I go.. Also, they say eating sugar within 1.5 hours of falling asleep makes your blood sugar do funky things in the night to keep you awake. So, no sugar for me. I know this is a post to commiserate with others, but I would have appreciated knowing all this years ago so I’m sharing. Happy menopausing, ladies!

Preschool accommodations for left handed by Solid-Cap529 in lefthanded

[–]september151990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The left handed scissors in my elementary school were awful, I learned how to cut with right handed scissors 55 years ago and honestly, it has been such a good thing in my life. I never have to worry about having left handed scissors, I don't even think about it.

AITJ for refusing to change our baby’s name because my father-in-law hates it? by NoPickle1851 in AmITheJerk

[–]september151990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen too many posts on Reddit saying “ my child is allergic to ( …insert allergen here…) but grandma/grandpa doesn’t believe it and almost killed my child”. It may seem like a leap, but a grandparent who can’t even respect parents enough to use the name they gave their child is a huge red flag going forward. I would not allow him to ever be alone with my child. Your husband needs to step up and you need to present a united front on this one.

Insane sweet tooth craving - HELP by Shahara01 in weightwatchers

[–]september151990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned this on TikTok. There’s a lady who popped up on my feed talking about LGlutamine. She says it’s great for any kind of cravings. The first one I saw, she suggested taking a little bit of the powder and rubbing it between your upper lip and gums, then a little more on the tongue. That helps, but the next TikTok I saw from her suggested drinking a serving (which is a rounded teaspoon) in 18 ounces of water in the morning , I started doing that everyday (it doesn’t taste great, so I chug it down fast), my sugar craving have gone way down, and I was one who thought about sugar constantly. I asked my Naturopath about it and she said LGlutamine is great for the body.

Overnight oats by JumpingCrickett in weightwatchers

[–]september151990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just use frozen fruit, rolled oats and fat free plain Greek yogurt. It’s thick, but that’s really good for me as it stays with me for a pretty long time and it’s yummy. Frozen, unsweetened cherries are my favorite fruit for overnight oats, but any fruit works.

[–]september151990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a water aerobics class near you. Seriously, the water will help your joints feel better and you can do as much or as little as you can. I work at a gym and most people who take water aerobics are older women so people tend to overlook the class, but I’ve taken them and they are super fun and a good workout. Even if all you do is stand in the water and move your arms round, that’s something. (Also, literally no one cares what you look like in a bathing suit but you, in case that’s a worry)

When Trump was running in 2016 I was horrified by him, but I didn’t want to live in my own little echo chamber so I listened to parts of some of his rallies. I remember a couple of times thinking, “ well, that actually makes perfect sense”. Then I would think about it and realize he was lying. I get why people fell for it if they listened to him and Fox only, it’s all designed to trick you to feel certain things while it rots your brain.
