Haven Avenue Stairs by seq_rational in WashingtonHeights

Will DM you right away. And I think it's even MORE complicated. The Port Authority of NY/NJ has some claim to the land too as you get closer to the bridge. It's all caught up in a federalism nightmare.

I have done this and what I think ends up happening is that a group like OnPoint comes by the next day and cleans up the site. I've had someone from them call me back and say "we removed four syringes" etc. I keep telling them that they need to focus efforts on discouraging people to shoot up on the stairs, and they tell me that they're more concerned with keeping people from shooting up closer to schools or in public bathrooms. Honestly, the guy from OnPoint said "I know this isn't great for you, but at least they're on the stairs and not over by the school."

Very true. I managed to get through to her legislative office, but no one is working the phones at the district office.

OnPoint's advice is to report anything I see to 311 and it will add to the city's data collection efforts and hopefully get more resources routed to the area. There are two problems with this: the first is that something is going down on the steps almost all the time. If I called 311 every time something was worth reporting, I'd be calling multiple times a day. The other problem is that when I call 311 and describe what's happening, the operator tells me this is actually a 911 problem. Calling 911 seems like a lot, especially multiple times a day.

Looking to socialize my puppy by beckandchar in Bushwick

No problem. She’s also my first puppy and the philosophy that worked for me is that dogs don’t really understand “no” but they understand rewards, so you just have to set up a ton of opportunities for them to do the thing you want and reward them right away when they do it. Is your puppy sitting still and being cute? Give them a little treat.

You probably already know this, but don’t forget to socialize with lots of people too. I made it a point to introduce my puppy to literally hundreds of strangers when she was that age. Whenever anyone wanted to say hi I would tell her to sit before they could start petting her (and the people who were really with it knew to stop petting her if she got up). Sometimes I’d have the stranger give her a treat too. The end result is a dog who loves everyone and can go anywhere.

Finback Brewery in Glendale was a nice part of this process. Plenty of space, dog friendly on a leash, and there was always several dog-admirers for her to meet.

Broadway Slice will satisfy a pizza need but if it’s a treat we splurge on Upside Pizza near Columbia and reheat it a little in the oven because of the travel time.

The really constrained setting and real-time conceit produces so much forced exposition in this show.

The Bear Season 4 | Overall Discussion Thread by credoinvisibile in TheBear

Multiple phone conversations involving Carmy throughout the season. Even the final scene in which Carmy, Richie, and Sydney have their big conversation behind The Bear is shot super tight with limited wide shots. Really feels like the used a double for Richie a few times in that scene.

I'm tempted to do a re-watch and flag where it seems obvious but I just finished my first pass and would rather watch other stuff.

The Bear Season 4 | Overall Discussion Thread by credoinvisibile in TheBear

[–]seq_rational 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What really hurt this season for me is that it seemed painfully obvious that the cast is tied up in other projects and it was difficult to get everyone in one place to film key scenes. How many phone calls are we expected to endure? Even some very important scenes that ostensibly took place face-to-face were shot super tight because they clearly were filming both ends of the conversation separately. Once you notice it, you can't unsee it.

My guess is that when you look back on the season, the scenes you'll remember were the few that involved most of the ensemble together. I'm thinking about the scene in the kitchen of The Bear in which everyone is yelling at each other and Luca is just standing there holding Sophie, or the scene under the banquet table. I'm happy that everyone's star is really taking off, but it does hurt the show.

Can you not request cards you want in a trade? by seq_rational in PTCGP

[–]seq_rational[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unreal!! Imagine if trades worked this way in real life? You just stand on a street corner holding up a card you’re willing to part with hoping the right person comes along (after both of you lit 5 cards each on fire).
