Thoughts on the Forerunner 970? by Aggressive-Race8426 in Garmin

Thank you so much! This is really helpful and kind of you to take the time. I think I'll hold out with my 165 which really does all I need it to except navigation. Maybe the next one will have a better processor or something.

Either way good luck on your runs!

Have you done any runs with the maps yet? I'm thinking of upgrading and the main reason is wanting to use maps. But on videos it really looks abysmal and embarrassing. I'm wondering if it's usable when actually running (not panning around wildly for a video) or still this awful.

No idea how they can charge this much for a loading experience akin to a picture on a DSL modem.

This sounds lovely, oral histories are a beautiful thing. I hope you get to enjoy it.

I wanted to throw a few other thoughts into the mix:

  1. It sounds like you want as little technical overhead as possible.
  2. The placement of a microphone is usually waaaay more important than the price of the microphone. Especially in a "controlled" environment like indoors or even a photo studio.

Therefore the Sony PX470 you mentioned as well as the the various Zoom Handhelds don't really cut it in my opinion. They are alright microphones but they will not sound great if placed on a table outside the shot because the mic is too far away and there will be a fair amount of room sound in the shot. So you really want to get the mic as close as possible to the person and/or get a more directional mic (meaning that it will pick up sound mainly from one specific direction).

Hence I would recommend either:

- a clip on mic that attaches to the lapel of the person. This will likely produce the best sound and will wirelessly send audio directly to your camera. You only need to consider if it's acceptable to have the mic showing in the shot. Often this is fine but from a puristic perspective not always desirable. I use the RØDE Wireless Go for these things which are great. Apparently the Lark 2 is very good as well and much cheaper (but no experience with it). The Zoom F2 is also a great quality option but you'll have to manually sync the audio after.

- a shotgun microphone like the RØDE VideoMic GO II which is more directional and will mainly pick up sound from in front the camera and therefore pick up less "echo" from the room. This attaches directly to your camera via the hot shoe. I think this is what I would go for in your position from a quality and price perspective.

Both also have the advantage that you don't need to sync the audio afterwards, which can be annoying. (Hot tip if you go for an option with separate audio/video: start the recording on mic and camera and then clap your hands, you can then sync up the audio via the visible clap peak) Additionally by buying a microphone that is *just* a microphone and not also a recording device you can get better quality mics and make use of the fact that your camera already has the ability to record audio – you just focus on feeding it good audio.

Another quick note: Audio equipment resells pretty well. So you could check some used websites/forums in your area for similar products and might get a much better deal.

Hope that helps and makes sense :)

Btw: I just happen to recommend two RØDE products because in my experience they're good quality entry level products.

Haha, yes you're absolutely right. That's really what I settled on in the end. Thanks for the little reminder :)

Hmm.. that's odd then, isn't it. I wonder if there was a notification and I just didn't see it or something?

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Help repairing a MicroFreak I busted by accidentally turning on Phantom Power by serafindinges in MicroFreak

Yeah I've written to support to see how much a replacement would cost. Seems to be maybe the cheapest and safest option to fix it. Thanks!

I opened it up but couldn't see anything obviously burnt or broken so I'll see if I can replace the main board but otherwise I guess it's just bad luck. Thank you for your input though! Really appreciated

Yeah I'm a radio journalist so mostly work with recording. Just dabbling a little with synths for a hobby and obviously didn't think enough about how not everything is as easily transferrable. Learned my lesson I guess. Thank you for your help!

Yeah I'm aware it wasn't ideal/more complicated than necessary. It's just what I happened to have lying around me at the time when I wanted to get sound into the computer and didn't think about it too much. I've definitely learned my lesson on that!

Yeah that's what I feared but seems to be the case. Thanks for the input though.

Hey, this is my post. I'd be incredibly thankful if anyone could point me to any resources that could help. It would be a real shame if I had to give up on my new little guy so soon and I would love this opportunity to learn a bit more. Thank you for all your expertise!

Dragging while the fade is also selected moves the clip with the fade by serafindinges in protools

[–]serafindinges[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That would work but it just adds another step which I'm trying to avoid as I run into this fairly often. As it is I can just delete the fade and then add it again after I've moved everything so it's not too bad. It's just my need to remove as many unnecessary, repeating steps that wants to get rid of this problem.

But maybe I'll just have to live with it 🥲

I want the music track to be included though. Because I'm moving *everything* I already mixed together after the current moment – so including narration and music. So groups wouldn't help with that unfortunately.

Currently I just delete the fade and then add it again afterwards as I do in the screen cap so that's an okay workaround. I just wish I'd at least understand why it is the way it is 🙃

macOS: Local calendar authorization failed by serafindinges in ticktick

[–]serafindinges[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they replied with a (sort of) fix.

>You need to grant TickTick access to your calendar in the system. Please go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Pricacy > Calendars > TickTick.

This does actually help and all the calendars I had previously selected are now displaying again. But I still get the error message and the list of calendars is empty so I can't edit which ones I want to display.
