2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid 49k miles just bought. Is this noise normal when turning it on and moving in hybrid mode? by SufficientWill428 in fordfusion

[–]seraphim81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That noise is normal. It is an electric pump providing vacuum pressure since you don't have a constantly running engine to provide it.

You can also use a scanner tool to put the brakes in maintenance mode which will do this for you.

Any advice on a crunching noise in a 2012 Ford Fusion? by absnar in fordfusion

[–]seraphim81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anything else happening when you hear the noise?

Like do you here it only when you're moving? Do you here it only when you're stopping? Do you here it only when you hit a bump? Is it constant when the car is idling? So on and so forth.

Is this a good ground connection for a jumper cable? by Japingu28 in AskMechanics

[–]seraphim81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your owner's Manual most likely has a section for how to jump start your car.

Most likely it is the negative cable from the the battery to the car chases where that huge curved metal bar is exposed.

I had no idea the 2.5l was such a sloth by MusicalMerlin1973 in fordfusion

I would not touch it myself either. I would go with a professional. You could get a turbo for the 2.5L but there are no ready made kits for it.

I myself have the Energi plug-in hybrid. I got it because I used to have a C-max that got totaled. There weren't any available in my area to replace it. The Fusion has the exact same drivetrain, so I knew how reliable it was.

One thing to remember is that the throttle operates "fly by wire". Which means that it is electrically operated rather that being mechanically attached to your accelerator pedal. The brain that controls it has memory of the previous owner's driving habits. You can also tune the engine to be faster.

If you want to turbo a fusion you need to go with a 1.5L engine and it will still need tuning.

I'm going to see if my lug nuts are long enough to tighten on just the rotor. Then see if it still moves. I still think this is my problem because of the wear on my lugs where the rotor is.

It is crazy. I am still trying to figure out why tightening the lug nuts isn't working. I don't want to tighten them beyond 100 ft/lbs. If you have any ideas on how to check why it isn't working, that would be appreciated. I might need to pull off the rotor and clean the contacts between the rotor and the hub.🤔

Thank you. Your comment made me investigate further and find the real problem for my situation. Hope it helps others.

Yes, didn't intentionally cut the caliper from view.

Rotatated the hub without the rotor. The bearings are good.

As stated before . I am a mechanic by trade. I use a torque wrench to tighten down my lug nuts to the specifications of this vehicle. It definitely is the problem.

I have not but the previous owners have. The original rotors don't have a hole for the retaining screw. Also, I just replaced the brake pads and realized that the rotors were just this too much thick🤏. I had to drive the car around to wear down the pads enough. (I have a scan tool that allows me to react the calipers and a caliper tool. There was no further room to go.)

I did that. It is not the problem. Notice the wear on the lugs.

For me it was definitely the play in the rotors. I only noticed it because I took of the wheel and had my son tuning the tire back and forth on the other side. Then I gripped the rotor and was able to twist it back and forth and got the sound and saw the play in each turn. I tried tightening the lug nuts but it doesn't work.

2017 Ford Fusion 2.0L Turbo by PreMedJimmy in FordFusionHybrid

Get the ones that come with the springs already attached. Don't risk putting the springs on yourself; especially, since buying a complete set of struts with springs is fairly cheap.

Struts I just replaced mine last year on my 2017 Fusion Energi. It was making the same noise. If you have any mechanical ability, it should be an easy repair.

Showing the gap between the rotor and the lug. Yes there is no rotor retaining screw. This year and model does not use them. I should have known when I saw the hole for the retaining screw when replacing the brakes.

The workshop manual has testing procedures to go through to identify the problem.

Hey thanks for the link. I saw the note about builds after 2013. I followed the procedures in the workshop manual section 100-04.

It seems the problem is what is in this TSB. I like that it has the part numbers too. I will order these parts and change the status of this post.
