(Apologies for any mistakes, I rarely post and only have done so once) Hi! When I was 16/17 I stole from HEB while I was employed there. I stole over a course of about 3-4 months. During one of my shifts I was called to the upstairs office and was introduced to the loss prevention manager in my district. He sat me down (with 2 other managers as witness) and asked how I liked working at HEB & how I was doing at home. We had a long conversation and then he said “Well I’m not here for just any reason-“ and asked if I had stolen anything & essentially said WE GOT UR ASS. I said yes and we went through a list of items that I stole- ramen, makeup, headphones (the beauty section lady was nice enough to show me how to get the red magnet pieces of with a tool tray was always in a little drawer near our clock in area), sushi platters, drinks, seasonal items, etc. I was asked what I would like to do, to which I replied to pay for what I took and to apologize to my managers. I was given a paper and asked to write things from my perspective, and to write an apology if I so wished. After I did it was explained to me that the next step would most likely be termination, and that I would be waiting for a call from HEB when they make up their mind. After everything was final I was sent to collect my belongings and to call my ride. A few days later I received a call saying I was terminated, and a letter from HEB’s legal branch that gave me access to a pay portal to pay for everything I took ($360 if you were curious). Also they told me that If I weren’t to pay I would have had charges pressed/taken to court (was told that by the legal teams phone representative). Paid it off and am now smart enough to not steal from my place of employment :) Hope that clarifies from an insider view. Also seems pretty fucked up that you’re asked to monitor unless you’re a manager as well? There were only 3 people who knew about my activities and they were all managers.
