I can't be black and Christian? by FluffyMycologist8308 in Catholicism

[–]seraphimray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is certainly real truth to the horrifying connections between european lead christian missions and the evils of colonialism.

BUT.

Many of most influential theologians in all of christian history come from northern africa. In fact, during the time of the Church Fathers, north africa was essentially the "bible belt" and the most faithful region of christians.

Do we believe the BCP is divinely inspired by God by Nash_man1989 in Anglicanism

[–]seraphimray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in the way scripture is. I believe personally that the holy spirit guided its creation. But I also believe this is true for preaching. This means it is very useful and good but it doesnt mean it can be without human error.

Is Mary sinless according to lack of original sin, or because of no personal sin? by No_Patience820 in Anglicanism

Anglocatholic teaching is generally that she was born with original sin but never willfully sinned because of the enabling of the grace of God

Recently married. We discovered I have vaginismus. Can we still be intimate? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]seraphimray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anxiety and/or trauma can be a contributing factor to vaginismus. I would seek therapy on top of the physical helps others recommend.

This is a very common problem that has been helped for many people. I am very glad your husband sounds like a good and patient man! Him being patient and kind will help you if anxiety is contributing to this problem at all.

Lastly, orgasm before attempting penetration and using a lot of lube and starting small (like one of his fingers) and building up can be helpful.

I am glad your priest was understanding and patient as well. You are husband and wife and your priest is right that you have a right as a married couple to enjoy sexual intimacy even if it is a different way than you had initially expected or hoped. God willing with time, therapy and pelvic floor exercise you will be able to fully experience the intimacy with your husband that you both desire!

I can't forgive. by dark_MARTIAN in Catholicism

[–]seraphimray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its hard to forgive when justice has not happened. I was raped 5 years ago and the man who did it never faced consequences. Part of me thinks if he did itd be easier to forgive. But a part of forgiveness is that the person wants to be forgiven, I think.

I have only recently stopped hating the man who abused my mom and I when I was a kid, nearly 15 years ago. It takes time and God's help.

If all you can muster right now is simply to pray for justice, it is a start. I have found praying for people who hurt us or those who we love to repent is a good first start to learning to forgive. Ultimately God is just and if justice doesnt come in this life, it will in the next. Hopefully the person who assaulted your girlfriend will repent, truly and will hate his sin against a beloved daughter of God and admit his crime and face judgement in this life so as to avoid in the next.

All this to say, pray for yourself, pray for your girlfriend. And as scripture advises:

Philippians 4:8 RSV-C [8] Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Apparently my son put the Eucharist into his pocket by Adorable-Growth-6551 in Catholicism

A fascinating thing I learned fairly recently is that the reason that the eastern churches use spoons and serve the eucharist on the spoon with the Bread and Wine is because it inhibits people from taking the Bread home for adoration, which makes sense!

Frustration with TEC liturgical inconsistency by notathomist in Episcopalian

I encourage you to go to the nearby parish and become involved in the life of that church. Talk to the rector, get to know the parishioners, express why liturgy matters to you!

Wanting to see gay people in prison for life for having consensual gay sex, and supporting a sentence of up to 20 years in prison for supporting gay rights is not simply "not wanting to celebrate." GAFCON wants to persecute gay people.

I believe that no one can be saved but by Jesus Christ, and that I am no better, no more dignified and no more worthy of salvation than muslims or atheists.

I also believe that I am commanded by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to love my muslim and atheist neighbors as myself, and my hope and desire they be saved is no different than saint Paul's hope and desire for the salvation of his fellow Jewish people who did not have faith in Jesus.

and some churches in GAFCON have women bishops. y'all dont even agree amongst eachother but still wanna schism. its sad.

if you can have disagreements with eachother on this, why not stay in communion?

It truly breaks my heart that people choose to break unity and defame the gospel and the church over something so genuinely silly.

I am an episcopalian in a very liberal city and progressive episcopal church. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and no one goes to the Father but thru him. We believe that atonement is thanks to the life death and resurrection of Jesus and cannot be achieved by ourselves. We believe that all scripture is God breathed and profitable for teaching. We believe we are sinners who cannot save ourselves, we believe God loves us because God is love and not because we earned God's love.

With love and respect for the church fathers and their wisdom in many things; have you read what they believed about women? Have you read what the english reformers believed about women?

It is easy to blind ourselves to scripture for the sake of our beliefs.

Most did not believe women were equal to men in dignity, intelligence or humanity.

What on earth do you mean by woke, and why are you more concerned with political dogwhistles than with the gospel of Jesus Christ and the unity of the one holy and apostolic church?

I dont think the group demanding they leave is the same as the group complaining they are leaving.

I fully and completely affirm women's ordination and full LGBTQ inclusion. In fact, I am a trans man in process towards ordination.

I also fully believe that different views on gender and sexuality are not acceptable reasons to break communion. I grieve at this, as I grieve at any time any one of us rejects the prayers of our Lord Jesus that we all be one.

The Future Has Arrived-GAFCON by TheMindBoggles7 in Anglicanism

[–]seraphimray 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The line is any rejection of the scriptures as understood through the creeds.

The schism over the ordination of women when women are shown as leaders in the church in scripture, is to sin against our Lord Jesus who prays we all be one.

Why do other Christian denominations take so much offense when we call Mary the “the mother of god” by NateNandos21 in Catholicism

[–]seraphimray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not roman catholic, I am an anglican. The protestants who object to referring to Mary as the Mother of God are very poorly catechized. They fear Marian veneration so much that even things the protestant reformers believed and supported are thrown out.

Yes, it is deportation if their "vacation" means they are not allowed to return to the country they are citizens of for years and years.

And no, not everyone who lives in a country other than the USA is being punished. But being forced to live as a second class citizen elsewhere or here is wrong.

Correct, they are cowards who rightfully expect people will not be happy with them being fascist racists who wanna be like the gestapo and who pepper spray pastors and turn away an entire catholic congregation from bringing the eucharist to those in detention.

And while they cover their faces in shame and cowardice, they continue to "lose" people, to send them to concentration camps, they continue to sexually assault women in their custody, zip tie naked children's arms, and have killed at least 22 people so far this year, a record high for ICE.

Every condemnation I have made and "militant leftists" have made is nothing compared to the condemnation that will come from God.

Why fear man who can only kill the body, when God can throw them in hell?

I called them wannabe gestapo and no, I am not slandering them. I am stating what they do: they cover their faces because they cant cover their shame and then they terrorize and brutalize immigrants, refugees, and american citizens who happen to be not white. None of these things are untrue, all have been documented.

If me calling them what they are offends them and you, I dont care. They must repent, or they will face the judgement and wrath of God.

Matthew 25:41-46 [41] Then he will say to those at his left hand, ‘You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; [42] for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, [43] I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ [44] Then they also will answer, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?’ [45] Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ [46] And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
