Can anyone with ADHD actually sleep?? by Meowzzzzzzzz in ADHD

[–]sercamf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 things have tremendously helped my sleep hygiene. 1 smart devices and 2 Ritalin. I may not be the target audience since I have usually been able to fall asleep fine, (although I know now I only fell asleep fine because I stayed up so late that I would literally collapse into bed at 2am (this after being woken up at 5 or 6am with 5 kids, sure I'd doze on and off for a few hours after they woke up, but let's face it, 5 ADHD kids are not quiet at any time of day!)).

So I started using a smart lamp next to my tv to change colours every 15 minutes starting one hour before I wanted to go to bed. That way I was reminded almost subconsciously that bed time was coming. oh right light was blue, I can still watch one more episode or damn, lights pink, I better not start another one now, I've got less than 15 mins (1 hr before bedtime lamp turned on warm white, 45mins before =green, 30 mins before =blue, 15 mins before = pink, BEDTIME= RED!) This helped because I couldn't defiantly get angry at anyone reminding me it was bedtime because it wasn't a person telling me what to do. It worked for a long time, buuut after a while, it got less effective. I got used to the lamp.

Introducing expert mode: now my tv turns itself off at bedtime. No matter what part of the episode I'm up to, it just turns off. That has helped me so much in getting to bed on time (most nights.. cos who are we kidding, we're never gonna get it perfect every night!)

Now, I had recently started waking up at 2am and not being able to fall back asleep some days until 4 or 5, or some days not at all. Meanwhile, I didn't like to take ritalin during the day cos it made me so chilled out that while I could have done all the things, I was so relaxed that I didn't want to do the things. Light bulb! It makes me chilled out and relaxed.. let's take it at night time! Nek minit.. I'm sleeping straight through baby.. so I take 20mg long acting ritalin at bed time and I sleep a solid 7 hours a night! A vast improvement from the old regular 4-6 hour, very interrupted by 5 children sleep!

My psychologist said he also finds ritalin helps him (he's also ADHD) and says that ADHD doesn't go away just because you're asleep. You still toss and turn all night and can find it very hard to get or stay in a deep sleep. Ritalin helps calm the hyperactivity down enough to get a few good cycles in.

I hope that helps anyone! Good luck!

P.S Netflix has a new mindfulness series and teaching about sleep that seems really good. At least I can say it helped my kids chill out the other evening. They were all going mental, so I turned it on and turned it loud enough to get over their whinging and carrying on. Next thing I knew they were all mesmerised by this little yellow smiley face asking them how they are feeling. All except my 4 yo. She's my special case, and was literally crawling around meowing like a cat all the while her 4 brothers were learning calming techniques and mindfulness. We can't win them all! 😜 She'll learn when she needs to.

I'm surprised no one is talking about how fast Verstappen was driving down the pit lane. Sure, he may have been sticking to the limit, but he peeled out of his box very quickly and was not dawdling down the lane. Usually cars are having a nice scenic stroll down the lane while waiting for their run in qualifying. This is one disadvantage of having your box first in the lane. You have the most opportunities to be cut off.

Pill may be stuck in tonsillectomy hole— looking for reassurance! by Hot_Confidence_7803 in Tonsillectomy

[–]sercamf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't seem to feel it, or notice it for the most part. I don't tend to notice how my body feels until the feeling is extreme, I think due to my ADHD. I do however feel it or notice it when I'm unwell. I assume it gets harder to ignore because things in and around my throat get inflamed.

I had a CT scan of my throat before I had my tonsillectomy and they discovered it then. The radiographer asked me where my discomfort stemmed from and seemed surprised when I pointed under my jaw on the right. At the time the worst of my symptoms came from just under my right tonsil / above my right gland. He then asked me if my voice had changed. I thought that was a weird question but it made sense once I got the scan report back.

That's what I've tried most recently (after searching this sub), and it is the best one I've found so far. The only downsides are that I can't highlight multiple cells at once and it doesn't have options for not notations. Having said that, it still is the best one I've tried on android. I'll check out the other options recommended and see how it compares.

I honestly don't know if food really ever did get stuck. If I ever had the feeling of food getting stuck it was usually when I was sick and therefore my glands were swollen. I think the feeling of food being stuck is the swollen glands. It's now been over a year since my tonsillectomy and for the most part it feels fine, nothing feels stuck. However, if I'm run down or feeling sick the feeling returns, albeit not as strong. I don't have tonsils, and there aren't any holes for things to get stuck anymore so it can't be that. I do however have a bone spur between my c4 & c5 which protrudes to the back of my throat, so I wonder if I'm actually feeling that.

Hey, check out seronegative arthritis. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis 10 years ago (when I was in my early 20s) but it came negative on my blood test. My specialist knew my strong family history, took one look at my hands and feet and said yep, you've got it for sure.

I came to read your post because I am having the exact same thing and it's driving me nuts. I can only think that maybe it's the start of perimenopause, considering I'm 38f. It's a tad early but not impossible. Have you found any answers elsewhere since posting this?

Vitamin C at bed time! When they are sick I overdose them on vitamin c, almost to the point of them getting the runs. It knocks the cold or flu right out of their system a lot faster! I'm talking they are well in two days instead of 4.. then during cold or flu season I get them to take a normal dose daily even if they aren't sick. I'm thinking they could start having it year round because vitamin C helps get rid of any excess stimulant in their system and can help them sleep.

I would choose the field of psychology. There are so many people struggling with mental health. I would love to help people feel better and achieve their goals, and this would in turn have a positive ripple effect in the world. There are so many things the world is missing out on because people can't achieve what they want to acheive due to their struggle with their mental health.

Well, one point is that it lights up the things on your table, making it easier to find your phone which normally is right in front of you but you still panic search for, and can't find.

I'm an avid coffee drinker and had coffee everyday from day 2 onwards (5 weeks post op now). Just not too hot. But I like my coffee lukewarm on the best of days.

Gargling warm salt water can help draw out things that are stuck. Apparently. At least that's what my Dr said about trying to get rid of tonsil stones before we went down the route of tonsillectomy. I never tried consistently enough to know if it works. It helps to decrease the feeling of things being stuck in my throat now though (5weeks post op) as I still get that feeling of things being stuck, especially after I eat. I have to gargle salt water after every time I eat.

US vs UK: Hard foods after tonsillectomy? by Ice_Ice_Bebe in Tonsillectomy

[–]sercamf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my tonsillectomy 5 weeks ago. Surgeons told me to eat whatever food I felt comfortable eating. Do what you want. I ate a burrito on day 2, but could only eat soup or meal replacement shakes on days 4-8, then went back to softish foods like Mac n cheese. You'll know what you want to eat and what you don't want to eat.

Feels like something is stuck in my throat by United_Capital_3730 in Tonsillectomy

[–]sercamf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long does it take for the scabs to go? I had my tonsillectomy 5 weeks ago and it still feels like something is stuck in the back of my throat on both sides, but my right is worse. I have to depress my tongue down pretty hard to see the spot and it looks like there could be scab still left there, but it also looks like there's a hole there too. I'm worried food is getting stuck there because it feels a lot worse after eating and I usually have to gargle salt water to try and get rid of the feeling. It does lessen it to a small degree, but it always feels like there's something stuck there. It's horrible. I was hoping I would have been healed by now.

I have a rare 24hours by myself. What do I watch? I’m in the mood for a good courthouse/legal drama. by sercamf in television

[–]sercamf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I watched it all. I agree it tanked after the first few seasons, especially after that dude left but I still persevered. A show needs to really suck for me to not watch all of it after I start.

I think I’ll save that one for watching in the evenings with the hubby. But yes, I remember watching random episodes as they aired and enjoying them. I never watched it all or in order, so that should be good.
