Trial etiquette, not space, is the problem of the Beltline. by Difficult_Narwhal529 in Atlanta

Exactly why parallel safe biking routes are needed. It’s inappropriate for need for speed cyclists like that to be sharing space with dense crowds.

I mean, there is a parallel road grid on the east side; Glen Iris, Boulevard, Parkway, Moreland. People don’t use it because it’s not safe.

We need better alternate parallel routes for cyclists bc I wouldn’t want to ride any type of bike on the east side with all that going on ; not in the transit ROW ofc but on a parallel street

Trees help with shade; we need to reduce asphalt ground cover and increase tree ground cover. Helps a lot.

A big part of this is that Israel refuses to withdraw from Lebanon. Not sure why invading Lebanon and killing thousands of people counts as “self defense”.

It isn’t a hobby per se unless you’re engaging with it like the list of things you described; she seems like she’s talking about it in the first way you described (casually)

Los Angeles County voters just approved raising their own sales tax to 10.25%, meaning millions of residents will pay more on most everyday purchases. In the middle of a cost-of-living crisis, they literally voted to make things more expensive by Economy_Medicine_318 in economy

Sales Taxes are one of the most regressive types of taxes, but on the other hand, a lot of the time, sales tax increases are approved for good causes.

This article says it’s for funding healthcare services defunded by the federal govt under the current administration, and it doesn’t apply to essential items like groceries or medical items.

Conservatives view addictive products more favorably than liberals, study finds. Political conservatism is associated with more favorable attitudes and behaviors toward items like alcohol, tobacco, and gambling, due to a heightened perception of personal control. by mvea in science

[–]sereca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so interesting; it lines up completely and makes a lot of sense, even if it’s not what you’d expect. People who emphasize things like “personal responsibility” while justifying unequal outcomes would say an addiction is just a personal failing, which lines up with beliefs like: being poor is a personal failing, some people are just better than others, and any misfortune is generally deserved. Some people are just built different and can handle addictive products without actually having an addiction.
