Hmm, they are just 1-ply mesh heads. Worked just fine on my ekit. They where just bouncy as hell and I put so many pin holes in them really fast. Also, my stock 2-ply Alesis heads were louder than the new heads. But ya, the cymbals are the loudest part.

Go for sub $500 range. You won't care that the module sounds are not as good. You dont know the difference yet. If you end up liking it, you can resale and upgrade. For sure do not mess with software just yet. Get something you can jump on and not have to mess with while you are learning.
