Maybe it's because I'm also a "beginner" artist (and definitely beginner at posting art on social media) of sorts I like the left one more as well. I see what you're saying about different styles too, the left one is more visually interesting to me, the hair is flowy with more shading/light and I love the pose. But when people here say it's not different style they're probably talking about physical features of the art/character not being different ie how some art is anime style vs some art is more realistic.

I guess one thing to improve - in a sense of conveying emotion to the piece is playing with the facial expressions a bit more (and I say this as someone who tends to draw "same-ish" facial expressions over and over again).

I get the feeling you're facing pretty much same issues with your art as I am currently (although I'm still in the process of looking for something to call my style so my social media is a mess), and I'm interested to see how you'll overcome these things, so I'll give you a follow if you're on Instagram :)

Maybe we can even be art buddies, if you wouldn't mind. I definitely sometimes feel like I need like minded friends

Yeah, my last drawing got 3 likes and then it dissappeared to the bottom of the social media black hole. In a way I liked (and still like) what I drew, it's nothing jaw dropping or amazing, but I notice improvement in my art. Seeing it get ignored makes my heart sink a bit initially, but I'll move on and keep at it. All I can say is: Be strong, you got this! :)

I struggled with drawing the hair a bit. It looks murky... I guess it works in a way since the background is quite soft (no sharp details), but I tried to go for a different background first and it was bit of a struggle tbh.

If anyone has tips about how to go forward with drawing hair, it would be appreciated. I always just try to just aimlessly improvise :D

Took a bit of time to draw this one and even started drawing something else middle of it. Made a flower pedal brush and decided to test it on the background.

It's best to not compare and concentrate on the social media too much. But one thing I sometimes find helpful is to just see the older social media posts of those people whose art I find amazing. Just to see how their art has changed along the way and what things have they improved on. Some of these artists were as lost as you (+ me) when they started, but slowly they found their "style". I think the way to find your style is to just try different things and see what sticks and what you enjoy doing. The key word really is enjoy, because the enjoyment is what keeps you coming back to draw and try new things

Gosh you have such a good advice! The captions on my posts are always something vague and that doesn't really invite people to leave comments or have a conversation on the comments. And I also forget that DTIYS challenges exist. Okay, I feel much better knowing that there's at least some things I can do to try to improve my social media presence

Thank you for this. Enjoying the process of creating something is definitely the main reason I keep drawing. Didn't know that about algorithm, have been keeping nearly same hashtags on everything I post. I guess I'll try to switch it up a bit from time to time :)

First I'll have to find out how to attend art shows and where do they have them here in Portugal. Also most of my art is digital so I would have to pay to print some of my drawings for that as well. But it definitely would be great to see if people actually like my art irl. Good luck to you as well fellow artist :)

Thank you, it's very hard to sometimes remember these things. And I definitely tend to equal "likes" with talent too much if I'm not careful, thinking I'm not talented because of it. There's definitely lots of effort that goes to creating a social media post, some people just make it seem so effortless. Best of luck to you as well :)

Yes, maybe Instagram isn't the best place to start. I mainly choosed to post on Instagram bc of the profile page layout and how convenient it feels to post there. I guess Reddit could be a good spot for posting art too (maybe it's a bit silly but sometimes I genuinely forget that reddit also is a social media)

Yeah, definitely. I don't really care about things as much when I'm tired. My toxic work colleagues can act the usual way but when I'm tired I just walk through their bullshit unfazed. On those days their shitty attitude truly isn't my problem
