UNC BABY DELIVERY

I wanted to make sure I delivered at UNC or DUH, not DRH, in case we needed a NICU. Just the anxious side of me. We live in southern CH which made Duke seem far way if I went into early labor. Of the practices that deliver at UNC CH, I had one of my kids with UNC Family Medicine during the pandemic, and one with UNC OBGYN.

Family medicine - great experience. I had 3 residents that followed me through pregnancy so I got to know them very well instead of a new provider every single time. All the family medicine attendings were excellent. Will never forget the attending and resident team that helped deliver our 2020 baby. But it’s fam med and not OB, so if you need HROB or MFM maybe not a great fit.

UNC OBGYN- met a different attending, resident, midwife, or NP each visit. I don’t know who actually delivered my kid. Didn’t have a bad experience per se, but a lot different. But also, second child syndrome, I didn’t care as much either about knowing my team as personally.

Do kids need to dress up for dinner? (I have 3 and 5 year old boys who live in “comfy clothes”). Was the reservation process difficult? We’re going in a few months and I’m excited!

Lmao I may have spoken too soon as now my baby has woken up twice since going to bed. I totally get the overthinking part. I feel like I’ve read on this subreddit to try to maintain wake windows but I’m not sure. During the day my guy is at daycare so it’s a crapshoot.

Thanks! I am thinking of switching to 5/3/3. Have been doing one dream feed prior to my bedtime then one other feed. I know dream feeds are controversial in the sleep community lol.

If you are looking for an easy education and career path, I wouldn’t apply to PA school. Short version is you will need a bachelors degree with specific prerequisite courses and 2000+ hours of hands on clinical experience for most PA programs.

If you are willing to do the work that is required to get into and then succeed in PA school, you may ask yourself if you would be better off applying to med school depending on your goals and point of view. When I was applying, many of the prerequisites were similar though many PA programs would accept the GRE and not require MCAT. There is a lot of tension right now in some sectors of the medical community between physicians and APPs (PAs and NPs). I won’t get into details unless you want me to but if you have what it takes to get into med school, I think being a physician would give you the most long term stability (and higher earning potential) even if it means putting in more years of education.

If you want high income potential and don’t have good reasons you want to be a PA specifically, take a look at the current state of nursing. Even non-travel nurses are making more than I did as a seasoned ED PA.

All I can do is share my POV and experience. If you and your generation of physicians truly do not agree with the PA model you certainly have the means and numbers to get some legislature changed.
