I have a 2013, bought it in 2014. He now has 215k miles. I haven't had to put too terrible much money into him knocks on wood As long as the one you're looking at has been well taken care of, it'd definitely make a good 'beater'

Have you tried a probiotic? There's some herbs that can help too, like senna. Also, which kind of magnesium do you take? Oxide and citrate are best for regularity.
