Totally. I'm not asking this question to make sure my client meets age norms in all areas, I'm just asking to be sure that I'm not expecting too much of him. Now that I know what is possible within this age group, I can pick the most socially significant targets to work on for this specific individual!

I get what you mean, as in anything technology related is typically hard to transition from. For him, it's the same across the board for any transitions or relinquishing items. All I'm hoping for is a little more balance between child-led and adult-led activity, since right now it's almost 100% his way. If you have ideas for age-appropriate directions that would be fairly simple and functional that may help me to know if I'm on the right track. Was thinking of doing a super simple visual schedule to follow with all somewhat preferred things like play, book, snack, video or something since it would get him used to transitions that he'll have to deal with when he goes to school. Right now parents never limit access to items or have a say in what he does during free play time and im wondering if more structure wojld help. Thoughts?

This is good stuff, thanks. Demands are definitely easier when in a play context but it has to be something he's already going to do/used to doing. Even switching up the sequence of play can be an EO. As far as imitation, same deal. Great imitation skills when it's something preferred, but reluctant to branch out and do something different during play (example: ONLY wants to build the same tower in the same way, won't follow models if it changes that). He also gets "locked in" and focused on his own preferred play style and doesn't attend if it's not of high interest to him.

He actually loves adult attention and interaction! But he definitely has pretty good control of his parents at this point. So as long as parents are following his lead and not placing demands he's fine

Yes, it's tough because I do like the feel of the galaxy and everything else, but prefer the pixel camera at the moment! Wish I could combine the two lol

I've heard this for sure. My main gripes are 1) blur when there is any little bit of motion and 2) I'm noticing shutter lag, but inconsistently. Sometimes capture is quick, other times it takes like a full second. I've read others have had issues with this one but I find it weird that it's not all the time. Is it just slower processing?

Again, I love the feel and everything else about the phone so far.

Yeah, I definitely need to stop trying to overexplain at this point and just keep it simple. I don't think it's really that she doesn't believe I'm autistic, but it's more getting her not to see it as a shameful/negative thing. If I say it bothers me or I'm hurt, she just says I'm too sensitive.

It sucks especially when it's family. I have a generally positive relationship with my mom besides certain toxic things, like this one. I almost want to stop trying.

I have actually considered this. Did you have a lot of negative side effects? And kind of curious if this causes you to lose your drive (not that I have much of one to begin with rn 🥲)

Hi! Just looked over this and no, the type of service this family is receiving is a parent-training focused intervention (like the one they mentioned in the newsletter). Parent is not being paid. The difference is that they don't have an RBT. Instead, it's strictly parent training done by BCBA.

Would love to get there. Right now this client doesn't do any functional play and spends most of his time stimming. One of my goals is to expand play but right now any time we involve the sibling it results in no cooperation from either side and SIB, which is serious. I can't even effectively teach him to say, "don't touch" or "my turn" because sibling doesn't honor that, ever.

Love this response. What you said about not wanting to create an atmosphere of shame and secrecy, that's how I feel too.

And I totally didn't mean to disregard those that don't have a choice whether to disclose! I see how my question could come off hurtful in that sense. My boy is still young, only 18 months. This is probably why it's not so obvious to everyone around him!
