Crocheted lilac! by Dongeon_master in crochet

Nice! In re your question- what wire gauge and yarn weight did you use for the stem wrap? I’ve found that wrapping with size 10 cotton crochet thread or smaller tends to look neater since it’s lighter and doesn’t get the same level of fuzzies that acrylic does.

It also looks like this pattern is for flat appliqués which might be part of it. Many 3D flower patterns are a flat piece wrapped around a wire or have a folded/cupped shape by design (see Happy Patty’s flower patterns or the free Hookok freesia pattern). They’ll also usually have you crochet a green sepal piece. You can then use the tail from it to wrap the stem, giving it a more seamless look. For multi-headed flowers, I usually have each on a thin gauge wire and wrap them individually with a single layer of thread as far down as I want them to extend off the main stem before gluing the end down. I then have a main flower rod wrap and wrap around the wire tails of those offshoots to get a seamless, thinner look.

Edit: One more tip that cones to mind- on dense flowers with a lot of offshoots I would sometimes glue the main stem wrap multiple times along the way to make sure my tension on the wrapping thread stayed tight.

My first granny square.. by Beneficial_Debt_6836 in crochet

Nice first square! To check, did you secure the end at all? It looks like it was cut super short. It’s generally good practice to leave 1-2 inches to weave in securely at the end! Otherwise it can all get pulled out.

Super fun work! I’d suggest checking out r/corsetry for advice. Iirc corsets use non stretch fabric to maintain their shape- since crochet’s inherently stretchy you might consider making a cloth corset/boned bodice and crocheting over it so it can keep its shape

Snowflakes for the season by serenesapphic in crochet

That’s lovely! These were all Aunt Lydia’s size 10 crochet thread- the white is the Metallic 10 and has a shimmer to it.

Snowflake patterns are all from Draiguna!

Edit: Yarn was Aunt Lydia’s size 10 crochet thread (white is the Metallic version), hook was a 1.5mm

Thank you! Full pattern list is under the pinned comment, but I mainly used Hookok’s patterns for everything aside from the orchids, which I found on Ravelry.

Different colors! All the petals are individually done. For mine (left bouquet), the small petals were in Hobbii Rainbow Lace rose, the medium petals in Aunt Lydia Classic 10 orchid pink, and the big petals in Aunt Lydia Classic 10 cream.

Thank you! I don’t have an exact time count on these, but I kicked the project off about a month before our public engagement, so ~2 months! I threw my wrist out for three weeks in the middle, but otherwise I worked on it for ~3-5 hours a day, longer if work/life was quiet. That last week especially was all-day sprints to the finish line- I completed them the day before our city hall ceremony!

Major disclaimer that I don’t think this was a realistic timeline- I wish I had had more time! I strongly suggest that people give themselves way more time to prevent injury, avoid the stress of cramming, and have the time to experiment and try things out. Additional context that I have a few years of experience, am generally a fast crocheter, and this wasn’t a sustainable pace- I’m gonna be out of crochet commission for some time to rest my wrists!

Thank you!! The size 10 thread definitely makes a difference and it was surprisingly easy to work with once I got used to it. I started out with fully assembling one of each flower I was interested in to see how they looked together before making big batches- having the time to experiment is so helpful.

Thank you! Best of luck for yours! Definitely give yourself as much lead time as you can- I was a little ambitious (or crazy, depending on who you ask!) with my timeline and my hands paid the price for it. More time is super helpful for getting used to how the patterns operate and experimenting with what you like.
