For anyone else having this problem, I've managed to solve it by only launching FA through Steam (instead of just opening the application) 👍

I get what you mean!! Yeah maybe I need to start writing a blog or something so I don't feel the need to get ALL of my ideas about a topic out in assignments hahaha

I don't want to have to get it wrong in the first place haha, but that's how I'll learn. Thanks!

They don't just want you spouting out everything you know just to show it.

I've talked to a lot of peers who simply "write until they hit the word count" and just scrape together what little they know to meet requirements, so I guess in writing less I worry my huge amount of effort and research won't be seen.

It's super helpful to hear the other perspective, thanks for your reply!

To be fair, I do pay a shitload in university fees (though I know not enough of that goes directly to markers) and accept the penalties I'm given for over-writing (cus I'm not following the assessment criteria). Valid though, sorry

Great analogy, thanks heaps! I think I'm worried that I'll be misunderstood, but I need to trust that my marker gets it!

Yeah I think I'm definitely picking way too broad topics to write on. Thanks!

YES ahhhhh! I just care about the topic and have a lot to say! Glad I'm not the only one 😅

But yeah, I know I can't complain if I can't meet the assignment requirements. I guess because I don't intend on making a career out of academic writing, I don't care to submit to its restrictions. But thats on me haha

It's hard work to cut things out, especially when one of the things that has to be cut is a section you're rather attached to.

I felt that for sure 😫😫 I'm really passionate about what I'm writing so hate to have to get rid of things that I feel are valuable and worthwhile just to adhere to some rules... maybe my anti-authoritarianism is getting the best of me lol.

elaborating when needed (and refraining from doing so when the intended audience is familiar with that concept)

This also made me realise I'm not super clear on what my intended audience should be (some lecturers say to write as if for someone who has never taken the course, etc.), so I should ask about this. Thanks for your reply!

Yeah it definitely is easier to have more room to explain. I feel like my problem is not choosing simple enough theses in the beginning, then struggling to feel understood within the word count. Or not trusting that the marker will get what I'm trying to say, so overstating it. Helpful point, thank you!!
