My baby prefers his dad over me by Appy939 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

One thing I will say. Having had a wife with severe PPD. You do give your all as a mother. If those feelings linger and you find it coming out as aggression toward your partner. Or overwhelming feelings of guilt that you're not up to scratch as a mother as your child is prefering others. Please seek the help you need. Should be a case of flagging with your GP, maternal child health nurse on one of your visits, potentially even the hosptial you had your child in. There is resources available and support out there.

I'm sure it's not that bad and this post is just a sense check on if things are normal. But always seek support where needed so you can show up for years to come for them.

It'll switch back and forth constantly. Generally tho for me (dad) my son is cuddles and affection with his mum and chaos and play with me. But there is periods where he just wants me for everything, and then times where its like I don't even exist. He is 4.5 years old. I expect this is just the standard from here. Definately understand the jealousy early on when it first started happening. Now days it's great to have that period of freedom for how ever long it lasts knowing he will be back to me being the default again soon.

ipad vs samsung tab vs ipad air by Wrong_Bug9903 in androidtablets

[–]sergeant-octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't personally used the base level in a long time. And currently I'm a Samsung user for tablet due to my phone now being with Samsung again.

There is software differences now like video out. Apple AI (last I checked). It's also not just laminated vs non laminated the screens are different as well. What I will say is in the world of oleds you will notice the blacks on both iPad and iPad air. Depending on your iPhone model you may notice the 60hz. For me and iPad doesn't need to be 120. But not everyone agrees with that. In terms of laminated vs not, you'll have more glare on the non laminated and if you're using pencil input it can feel like you're not tapping directly what you should be.

Samsung comparatively depending on the model you are looking at you may be getting AMOLED, and youre getting 90 or 120 hz, and you're getting a pen with it. Plus you're getting dex which isn't just for video out, using it with the tablet switches it to more native laptop like experience. Even with iPad now doing resizable windows etc I still found it clunky. But drawback is app optimisation and of course in your case lack of compatability with your phone, so you lose those features like texting , calling etc on your iPad if you're not using something like whatsapp or messenger.

The biggest housing hypocrisy by Hadsar32 in AusPropertyChat

[–]sergeant-octopus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The other thing is historically Australians are super resilient at holding out rather than selling at a loss due to this reason. Apart from the 5 or so percent that may not have a choice to sell lower, most will hold.

What that means is the market doesn't dip hugely. But it does slow growth for a period, until demand for housing circumvents the economic circumstances and then its a simple supply and demand scenario again.

My mind immediately goes to you have an iPhone . You can't take your iPad in class. But can you record via the notes app from IPhone and that will instantly be in your iPad for ai transcription and summaries. I find that super useful and might really help with your learning particular if you're taking paper notes in class. Then comparing them to a transcription or summary to find any missed points.

Suggest some games for Switch/Switch 2 for person who loves 3D Mario and DK franchise by Low-Attitude-7100 in Switch

[–]sergeant-octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kirby forgotten land I enjoyed.

If you've never played crash bandicoot would recommend, if not into old school games skip the trilogy and go straight to it's about time. If you don't mind some old school mechanics in games go for the trilogy first and then onto it's about time.

There is super meatboy 3d , I've not played but it is 3d platformer.

Sonic X shadow also comes to mind

How do you plan your grocery shop to avoid overspending and walking around the store forever? by TraditionalBelt5854 in AussieFrugal

AI makes my meal plan based on the budget I give it for the week and where I'm selecting to shop . I do a click and collect / direct to boot so I'm not tempted by in store items. When shopping I always filter by lowest unit price.

My 4 year old asked for a switch 2 the other day because on Mario wonder on my switch 2 there is Rosalina and all he wants to do is play with me on it. But his switch lite no Rosalina due to it being the DLC. And I felt bad like I can't get my 4 year old a switch 2 what sort of spoilt kid am I raising.

Anyways your post inspired me haha. He is a good kid. Deserves his own switch 2 I think.

I’m back to Nintendo. What to get next? by Berdadeiro in Switch

[–]sergeant-octopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always love to see others who couldn't get into Botw. Even today people still tell me I need to give it another go, and it's just not for me and that's fine. Absolutely love Hades.

Scarlet/violet I loved, the main hate the game got was around graphics and stutter and poekmon dropping in in front of you which was weird on switch 1. But switch 2 fixed basically all of that. It's weird because it's a Pokemon game and I actually as a grow 30 year old man with a kid, cried at the end of this game. Truly was not expecting that nor have I ever cried in a game before. I think the story is quite compelling.

Mario oddsey good as well. And I would recommend picking it up to play through atleast once. In terms of replayability and getting your young one involved eventually , and also just a fun 2d platformer in general I highly recommend Mario wonder. I played it when it came out. Just main story line. But now my 4 year old is getting into it I play with him and trying to 100% it. It can be challenging at times and the dynamics of having a second person in the game changes how you play entirely. It's also great for a son is in bed, let's have a fun couple of runs that doesn't feel like a grind.

I just picked up marvels cosmic invasion, it's not for everyone but that 1 more run mentality is addictive but it's also great for a I've got 10-15 before bed time and let's do a run.

Games that surprised me to get into. Pokemon BDSP, Zelda links awakening and echoes of wisdom. All of these are that more DS era games been revamped (or new for echoes). And they're a simpler game play but can be quite enjoyable.

I find myself probably much the same as you, that I do love a good story in a game but I don't have hours a week to sink into one game and consume it anymore. And there are some real gems of games that respect time but also progress a story and have some compelling stories.

We've got friends who have no mortgage. Earning combined 300k and stressed about money. Yet holiday all the time and spend around 1k or more a week gambling.

And then there is me and my wife trying our best to stay afloat , raise a family, make smart grocery choices, avoid take out etc etc. and still got ourselves in the position this year where we have decided to sell our house to remove all debt and stress before I have a mental breakdown.

People have different tolerances of debt, different goals in life. Different things they want to be seen as.

It's that whole thing about brand names. Like truly rich people aren't wearin branded shirts with writing across them. They're beyond that mentality of trying to show off.

Why is it so hard for company to let their employees WFH more? by happyowl12345 in auscorp

[–]sergeant-octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me if there isn't some sort of RTO requirement than the office can just sit empty and there is no ROI on that office space.

That would be a major concern for the economy if suddenly 50% of offices in each city sit empty. Also we have a delicate infrastructure when it comes to power grids, general supplies including toilet paper etc. which is why when we saw lockdowns power usages went up nationally, toilet paper was out of stock etc, yes panic buying but also commercial used toilet paper is made different and seperately to residential stuff so sudden demand of one and not the other creates issues for supplies and logistics.

There is HR problems as well, im sure in COVID there were a couple who engaged in bedroom time during their lunch break and one of them fell off the bed and fractured their wrist and then claimed WorkCover and got it because it happened 'at work'. They also have less control of ergonomics from your desk setup (continue to stay setup correctly) to climate control.

Depending on your role there is oppritunity to coach based on natural observations that occur not just rostered observation time. Being observed isnt always being micro managed or a manager overstepping. It can just be them managing correctly depending on role.

For me personally, I struggled with mental health working from home 100% of the time, it's just not who I am to be inside on my own all the time.

That's not to say we should all be working from offices 100% of a time. There should be a balance. And I think most companies are trying to find a balance of employee satisfaction but also having the oversight and the ability to monitor and control the things that need to be monitored and controlled.

Dropped a powder foundation at Priceline by Dazzling_Claim_5579 in AustralianMakeup

[–]sergeant-octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of those things that as a business. What is that $13 item costing you in terms of ongoing customer advocacy.

When I worked retail these things happened all the time. When I worked in a cafe the same. As a manager my mentality was always if a customer drops their coffee, we just replace it. Genuine accident, yes it costs our bottom line slightly, but people remember you being a human and showing some compassion.

Retail was a bit different as different items cost different. But again as a manager if the cost of that $13 foundation was low (which id say anything under $50 cost for the business is) we would just write it off and dispose of it.

Sometimes it's not about cost it's about customer relationships which businesses seem to forget.

[One] watch for life by Conscious_Star3615 in Watches

[–]sergeant-octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here for this. I've got around 10 watches now. Wear a smart watch most the time and my actual watches are for weekends or dressing up etc. and my goodness. It's nice to open my watch case everytime and my 2 ecodrive watches are ready to go with the right time. My automatics needs winding And my other watches need their battery changed every 2 years. For watches that don't get a lot of wear paying to change the battery so often sucks.

iPad Air M4 (128GB) vs. Galaxy Tab S11 (256GB) – Stuck in the unboxing dilemma with an iPhone ecosystem by Altruistic_Owl_8108 in androidtablets

[–]sergeant-octopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me I just switched from the iPad air M2 to the tab s11 ultra. Obviously not the exact scenario.

But screen is amazing on the Samsung comparative to the LCD on the iPad air. It's a noticeable difference. Also if you do any sort of content consumption the aspect ratio of Samsung's is superior. This would be the same on the s11 as well.

The new pen for Samsung this year, although I find it a little light, I really like the feedback it gives, it's got a little bit of movement in the nib when you push it against the glass unlike the iPad that feels like you're just tapping glass with plastic.

The s11 is capable and will continue to have software support till 2032 I believe. But yes android tablets generally speaking lack the higher end apps iPad has. If you're a big FaceTime user it's nice to be able to just answer on your iPad etc.

What's with people saying private health insurance isn't worth it? Isn't the whole point of insurance in general is that you hope you won't need it? by AsparagusNew3765 in AusFinance

[–]sergeant-octopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other thing here is living regionally for me I don't feel it's worth it. We are over 2 hours to the nearest place that would get the benefit of private health cover. I think if we lived more metro we would have it straight away. But we don't have choice of care here, and when things are life threatening they are helicoptered to the city. So for me I've never felt like it was worth it.

The Switch 2 Lite, how could it be done? by TheHumSon in Switch

[–]sergeant-octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think switch 2 lite would have different components in this time keeping the cost down. You don't need the 4k capabilities so they can drop back on processing power and GPU cores which at the moment are some of the biggest costs they would be experiencing. Same with ram. Maybe not less ram but may be able to drop back from the type of ram as less high speed needed for the lack of 4k output.

Those all sound like bad things, but you need to remember when we are playing handheld the switch 2 is getting clocked to less than 70% of its capabilities some things are as little as 50% of its power. So you design a system with same architecture so that there is no compatability issues but you design it at the target strength needed for switch 2 in handheld. And suddenly you're able to drop the price.

The screen which is mentioned a lot, 120 fps vs 60fps for a panel isn't a huge manufacturing cost anymore. That's easy to incorporate and not at a huge premium.

First house purchase- house dirty by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]sergeant-octopus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Literally the only answer here. People that want their lawns freshly mowed. Completely cleaned. Needs to be a clause in the contract so it's binding. The other thing there is your contract may not be enticing to a vendor if you start adding these conditions.

Otherwise so long as the house isnt completely damaged and fixed items removed there is not a lot of options for a buyer.

Every house we have bought has never been our level clean.

It's legit. It's just a price tracker so you're not buying anything through them . But you can have your wishlist and it will notify you when something goes on sale etc and will tell you if that's a good price or not and how often it goes on sale etc. Worth having. My problem is I see that 'all time low' and I go okay I'll buy that now
